Cursor Literary is the boutique U.S. publishing office for several international publishers who distribute in North America.
We're looking for an office manager and marketing assistant, and this position is a great stepping stone to a career in publishing.
We work with several eclectic lists : translations; nonfiction about the natural world; unique kids books; big literary fiction; fairy tales; some genre - video game books; romance; cli-fi; graphic books - and a sub-genre we secretly call "weird sh
- t happening in the woods." The right candidate will be sensitive about supporting authors and their work; curious; excited by spreadsheets; organized in life and at work (for instance, are your spices alphabetized?); prone to proofreading; in love with grammar; and, above all, excited to work and read books from commercial tomes on pets, wolves or trees to fiction that pushes boundaries. A love of children's books and the power of books to transform lives—and, even, planet earth!—is also helpful.
Physical labor (i.e., packing books and lifting boxes of books) is required. A love of local indie bookstores is a bonus. If anyone has ever told you that your email manner is exquisite, or any teacher ever praised your strong writing, and all the above sounds appealing, including, especially, the lifting of boxes : please apply! We offer a lucrative "Paid Time Off" schedule and cannot currently offer health benefits. This position is 30-40 hours a week (depending on your life needs), and our offices are in the Center for Performing Arts Building in Minneapolis. The applicant should have a car—we need to deliver books and packages a few times a month.
