Job Overview
The Lead Instrument/Sterile Processing Technician provides an essential role in patient safety and infection control by ensuring surgical instruments, endoscopes and patient care equipment is decontaminated, reprocessed and maintained. The Lead Technician operates several types of surgical instrument sterilizers and decontamination equipment. In addition, the Lead Technician takes on the additional duties of a surgical specialty liaison.

Essential Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.
Acts as surgical specialty liaison to the Operating Room and Procedure Center.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, acting as a resource to team members for the services provided; being a positive role model; and assisting with the implementation of new procedures and/or equipment/instrumentation within the service.
Performs all case cart functions including picking case carts for Operating Room (OR) and Procedure Center cases.
Assists with training on cleaning and sterilization, using instrument manufacturer’s guidelines for new instruments and sets.
Creates and updates instrument set lists and enters them into SPM system.
Performs decontamination functions for all durable medical equipment and OR surgical instruments.
Performs sterile processing functions with a variety of sterilization methods.
Performs surgical instrument functions with proper care and handling. Ensures all instruments are in proper working condition before reassembling the sets.
Participates in professional education and growth opportunities within Sterile Processing and instrument technology. Maintains certifications and stays up to date with current trends in field.
Precepts new employees.
Participates in departmental, divisional, and/or organizational committees and projects as assigned.
Acts as a role model and team lead for other team members.

Must have knowledge of approximately 3,000 surgical instruments and specialty surgical instruments sets.

Qualifications
EDUCATION – High School Diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE – Two years Sterile Processing Technologist or two years Surgical Technologist experience.
CERTIFICATION(S) – Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.

Salary Information
Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $37,406.41 to $56,109.62
Hourly Salary Range: $17.98 to $26.98
