Job Overview

The Instrument/Sterile Processing Technician provides an essential role in patient safety and infection control by ensuring surgical instruments, endoscopes and patient care equipment is decontaminated, reprocessed and maintained. The Technician operates several types of surgical instrument sterilizers and decontamination equipment.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

Performs all essential equipment processing functions including issuing out all par levels that have been set for the floors.

Performs decontamination functions for all durable medical equipment as well as all surgical instruments from the Operating Room (OR).

Performs sterile processing functions with a variety of types of sterilization methods.

Participates in professional education and growth opportunities within Sterile Processing.

Precepts new employees.

SCOPE AND LEVEL

Guidelines: Guidelines are generally numerous, well established, and directly applicable to the work assignment.  Work assignment and desired results are explained by general oral or written instructions.

Complexity: Duties assigned are generally repetitive and restricted in scope but may be of substantial intricacy.  Employee primarily applies standardized practices.

Qualifications

EDUCATION – High School Diploma or equivalent.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $30,774.35 to $46,161.52

Hourly Salary Range: $14.80 to $22.19
