The Program Manager, Mental Health Risk Management & Regulatory Services is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of all risk management and regulatory activities related to the Health System’s delivery of mental health services. Serves as a liaison and mental health services subject matter expert with Privacy and Compliance, Occupational Health, Safety / Security / Emergency Response, Quality, and various patient care services departments throughout the Health System, and regulatory agencies with responsibility for oversight of mental health services (e.g., DBHDS). This role requires collaboration with Mental Health program and other clinical leadership for all levels of care at the Health System. A high level of independence in performance of the role and / or solution of problems is expected, however, demonstrated cooperation and collaboration is essential for successful functioning. Reports to department leadership.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for managing and analyzing data and conducting risk assessment for the mental health services.
- Works collaboratively with mental health clinical and non-clinical areas to evaluate risk and loss potential.
- Reviews occurrence data for early identification of risks and consults with mental health department directors / managers for follow up.
- Provides training and education as necessary on risk mitigation and early disclosure programs.
- Oversees the mental health risk management programs to ensure compliance with incident reporting.
- Directs all investigations regarding potentially compensable events (PCEs) in mental health services.
- Coordinates with the Quality Department regarding causal analysis of events as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Ensure compliance with Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Health System policy and State / Federal Regulations applicable to the delivery of mental health services.
Required Licenses and / or Certifications
Valid Virginia driver’s license and be able to meet the insurance requirements of the hospital required.
Current Virginia state license as a Registered Nurse or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license preferred.
Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Management CPHRM certification preferred.
Required Education and Experience
Approximately three to six years progressively more responsible work experience in risk management in a clinical setting required.
Seven years’ experience in mental health required; ten plus years preferred.
Experience and expertise related to DBHDS policies, regulations, and licensure process preferred.
Strong working knowledge of risk management and performance / continuous improvement models required.
Understanding and working knowledge of HIPAA, OSHA / VOSH, DBHDS, DNVGL, ISO-9001, EMTALA and federal Conditions of Participation regulations required.
Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility to include theory, practice and administration in order to direct planning and implementation.
Ability to prepare reports, policies and budgets at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
Proficient skills in Microsoft Office and other applicable software required.

Ability to travel to offsite locations required.
