  • GENERAL SUMMARY
  • The Radiology Assistant works as a fundamental part of the Radiology healthcare team by assisting with daily operations in the assigned modality. This position performs a wide variety of technical, clerical, and patient care duties that assists patients, radiologists, technologists, and nurses. The Radiology Assistant is responsible for providing support with patient flow, patient prep, and patient screening in the assigned modality. Reports to department leadership and works under the direct supervision of a licensed Imaging Technologist.

    • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Provides exceptional customer service during communications with families, doctor’s offices, modalities, and any other internal and external customers.

    • Greets and escorts patients / families to designated dressing room / modality, performs initial screening for exams, i.e., MRI screening, and provides instructions for the exam.
    • Informs patients / patient families of any unexpected delays with appointments and procedures.
    • Assists with patient transport requests and notifies technologists of any delays that may affect operational workflow.
    • Performs phlebotomy procedures, (start IV’s, collect lab specimens), collects, prepares, and sends specimens; as well as performs Point of Care Testing.
    • Confirms patient identifiers and the type of study, prior to exam preparation.
    • Prepares exam table / room and assists with patient transfers to and from the exam tables and may assist the technologist with patient positioning.
    • Assures patient comfort measures by providing blankets, pillows, cushions, distractions and stays with patient during exam when necessary.
    • Prepares and cleans the equipment and scanner room before / after each patient.
    • Stocks supplies, linen and other items as needed within the department.
    • Documents and communicates pertinent information ensuring confidentiality of patient records.
    • Escalates concerns to Management as necessary.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
    • LICENSES AND / OR CERTIFICATIONS
    • Required Licenses and / or Certifications

      Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

    • MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    • Required Education and Experience

      High school diploma or equivalent.

      At time of hire, a record of completion for all education, licenses, training and / or certifications is required.

    • Continuous re-certification and / or maintenance of licensures, certifications / designations, training, educational and application requirements required during employment.
    • Preferred Education and Experience
    • Actively enrolled in an accredited program, college or university seeking a certification, degree, or diploma in a healthcare related field and / or 6 months experience working in a healthcare related position preferred.

    • Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Possesses the ability to understand and follow instructions relating to basic patient care.

    • Ability to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to perform phlebotomy related procedures (start IV’s, collect lab specimens) with on-the-job training within 6 months.
    • Highly motivated, enthusiastic team player who takes initiative.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
    • Excellent time management skills, able to shift priorities and able to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, fluid environment.
    • Must possess strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills as well as, the ability to interact with and build collegial relationships with diverse individuals.
    • Strong communicator with exceptional follow up skills.
    • Ability to provide outstanding customer service to both internal and external customers.
    • Ability to follow Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) policies and procedures and maintain confidentiality of all facility and facility-related (patients / families) information.
    • WORKING CONDITIONS
    • Expected to assist with Laboratory, Radiological, Diagnostic, or Imaging procedures in a healthcare environment with moderate exposure to hazards such as excess noise, dust, odors, or extremes in temperature. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous materials, radiation, radio nucleotides, medicinal preparations, body fluids and other conditions common to the healthcare environment. Following proper safety and health procedures reduces potential for personal harm or injury. Moderate adverse working conditions due to the need to perform diagnostic testing and patient care procedures.
