About The Role

At Chime Financial, we are reinventing how people bank. We are seeking a Senior Lead Product Counsel with deep financial services expertise to join our Product and Payments Legal team. This is a strategic role for an experienced legal professional who enjoys working with a variety of financial regulations and complex product counseling matters.

You will be a key legal advisor to senior leadership, working cross-functionally with product, marketing, compliance, engineering, and operations teams to support Chime’s mission to deliver innovative, customer-focused financial products. Your work will involve advising on legal risks, supporting regulatory compliance, and enabling scalable growth in a fast-paced environment.

This role requires exceptional legal acumen, strategic thinking, and strong leadership capabilities. You will play a pivotal role in shaping Chime’s product strategy while navigating the evolving regulatory landscape. The position is based in San Francisco, Chicago, New York, or Washington, DC.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $193,860 and up to $274,700. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Serve as a senior legal advisor on complex product development initiatives, working closely with product, engineering, and business teams from ideation to launch.
  • Provide expert legal guidance on lending, credit, deposits, and financial technology products, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Act as a thought leader on regulatory matters, including consumer protection, bank partnerships, and financial compliance requirements.
  • Lead and manage relationships with outside counsel, ensuring efficient and effective legal representation.
  • Develop and implement regulatory strategies to support innovative products.
  • Proactively identify legal risks and provide strategic solutions.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • 8 years of legal experience, with a mix of law firm, government, and/or in-house experience.
  • Deep expertise in financial services regulations, including knowledge of fintech, bank partnerships, and product counseling.
  • Prior experience advising on banking-related products through the full product lifecycle, including partnerships with banks or financial institutions.
  • Strong ability to assess legal risks and translate them into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience managing outside counsel effectively and efficiently.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and bar membership in good standing.
