DESCRIPTION
Enforcement of state & local laws, maintaining public safety, and responding to emergencies. Duties typically include patrolling jurisdiction, conducting investigations, making arrests, issuing citations, providing assistance to the public, and testifying in court. Willingness to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and community organizations to prevent and solve crimes. Additionally, participation in community outreach programs, with intentions to further establish trust and rapport with citizens. Possess strong communication skills, problem-solving capabilities, and maintaining a level of physical fitness suitable for job necessities, and the ability to remain calm and composed in high-pressure situations.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
1. Enforce laws and regulations: Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity, respond to calls for assistance, and take appropriate action to enforce local, state, and federal laws.
2. Maintain public safety: Conduct routine patrols to deter crime, respond to emergencies, and assist citizens in need of help, including providing medical aid, directing traffic, and resolving disputes.
3. Investigate incidents: Gather evidence, interview witnesses, and collect information to investigate crimes, accidents, and other incidents, ensuring thorough documentation and adherence to proper procedures.
4. Make arrests: Apprehend suspects involved in criminal activity, execute arrest warrants, and transport individuals to detention facilities while adhering to legal guidelines and ensuring the protection of individuals' rights.
5. Conduct searches: Conduct searches of persons, vehicles, and premises with probable cause or consent, seize evidence, and document findings in accordance with established protocols and legal requirements.
6. Maintain order: Respond to disturbances, riots, and other public safety threats, and take appropriate measures to restore order and protect individuals and property.
7. Provide assistance: Assist other law enforcement agencies, emergency services, and community organizations as needed, including providing support during natural disasters, traffic accidents, and other emergencies.
8. Liaise with community members: Build positive relationships with community members through outreach programs, public events, and neighborhood meetings, and address concerns and issues raised by residents to foster trust and cooperation.
9. Maintain records: Complete detailed reports, maintain accurate records of activities, arrests, and investigations, and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures, as well as legal requirements for record-keeping. (optional)
10. Serve court documents: Serve subpoenas, warrants, and other legal documents, testify in court proceedings, and provide support to prosecutors and other legal professionals during criminal trials.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma and moderate experience in law enforcement, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
- VALID DRIVER’S LICENESE IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA.
- MUST MEET AND MAINTAIN ALL TRAINING AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION.
- BASIC LAW ENFORCEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED.
