PROGRAM SUMMARY
CPC Queens Services for Families with Special Needs (CPC Queens Special Needs) provides cultural and linguistic services and programs to support individuals with developmental disabilities to enjoy meaningful relationships with friends, family, and others in their lives; experience personal health and growth; and live in the home of their choice and fully participate in their communities.
The Josephine M. Ho Home for Special Needs (also known as The Josephine Ho IRA House) is a supervised Individualized Residential Alternatives (IRA), located at 55-11 97th Street, Corona, NY 11368-3049. Our supervised IRA provides 24-hour staff support for six individuals. Our staff follow a person-centered Life Plan which includes activities and supports that is created to help the person become more independent and to have a meaningful life.
JOB SUMMARY
CPC Queens Special Needs Program is seeking caring, empathetic and compassionate individuals to join the team as Direct Support Professionals to provide a nurturing and safe home environment for the residents of the IRA house, and assistance with the residents’ essential daily activities. Reporting to the IRA Residence Manager & Director of Queens Special Needs, the Direct Support Professionals will also support the administrative aspects of the program at the IRA house for reporting and compliance. This position is located at the Josephine Ho IRA House.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide nurturing and safe home environment for residents including emotional support, fire safety skills and basic housekeeping.
- Implement residential habilitation plans supporting residents’ valued outcomes including assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing and shopping.
- Identify, report and prevent incidents posing risk and/or potential risk to well-being, health and safety of residents.
- Document services provided in English and maintain compliance with CPC, OPWDD and Medicaid regulations.
- Apply critical thinking and judgement to independently resolve daily challenges and seek supervision as appropriate.
- Complete and maintain required training and certification including Approved Medication Administration Personnel, First Aid and CPR.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- Experience in the field of developmental disabilities desired.
Skills and Competencies:
- Collaborative team spirit including effective strategies to collaborate with diverse personalities and styles.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new skills and adjust to changing circumstances, priorities and needs.
- Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese) is required.
- Excellent communication and inter-personal skills.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW
- $16.00 - $18.00 per hour; on-call basis
- CPC offers eligible staff members mandatory benefits, including paid New York State sick time
