ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC) aims to promote the social and economic empowerment of Chinese American, immigrant, and low-income communities. Today, CPC is the nation's largest Asian American social services agency and offers more than 50 programs at over 35 sites throughout New York City, including early childhood education, school-age care, youth services, workforce development, community services, and senior services. CPC strives to be the premier social service and leadership development organization. In 2017, CPC launched Advancing Our CommUNITY, its organization-wide strategy to expand services to address persistent needs and emerging trends and to improve leadership skills among staff and community members. In 2022, our core programs and emergency services reached 200,000 people living in all five boroughs and all 51 city council districts. In the summer of 2022, CPC was recognized as the number one Chinese American organization in New York City to recommend to a Chinese immigrant looking for in-language and culturally competent resources according to a recent survey. PROGRAM SUMMARY
Schools of Greatness are a portfolio of schools in which CPC partners with and provides college, career, and anti-discrimination workshops to students in grades 9-12. CPC Schools of Greatness provide internal and external services to students, a variety of enrichment activities, and host monthly Teen Nights at Community Centers with additional workshops, sports and STEAM activities.
JOB SUMMARY
The Success Coach will play a crucial role in our work with youth and the larger community. This position involves engaging with young people in our schools, facilitating workshops to support college and career goals, and supporting youth-led initiatives to combat discrimination as needed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Workshop Facilitation
- Co-design and lead interactive workshops on topics such as identity, implicit bias, college, and career readiness
- Create safe spaces for youth to have difficult conversations about complex issues
- Adapt curriculum to meet the specific needs of diverse youth groups
- Youth Engagement
- Mentor and support youth in developing leadership skills and becoming advocates for change
- Organize and supervise youth-led community projects and initiatives
- Support in the recruitment and enrollment of youth in schools of greatness portfolio
- Program Development
- Collaborate with team members to develop and improve program curriculum
- Stay informed about current issues and best practices in anti-discrimination education
- Contribute to program evaluation and impact assessment as well as data collection and entry into CRM software
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience in the field required
- Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or related field (or equivalent experience) strongly preferred
- Experience working with diverse youth populations in NYC Public Schools
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills
- Knowledge of social justice issues and practices
- Ability to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all participants
- Bilingual in English and Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese/Arabic strongly preferred
Additional Requirements:
- Hiring for this position is subject to clearance by NYC Department of Education and required background checks
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS OVERVIEW
- $22.00 - $27.00 per hour; up to 20 hours per week until the end of June 2025 with occasional evenings and weekends as needed
- CPC offers eligible temporary staff members mandatory benefits, including paid New York State sick time
