Job Summary
An accounting clerk is responsible for maintaining financial records by accurately recording transactions, generating financial reports, reconciling bank statements, and performing clerical duties like filing paperwork, all while ensuring compliance with accounting procedures and standards, typically under the supervision of an accountant, requiring strong attention to detail and proficiency in data entry and accounting software.
Responsibilities
- Data entry: Entering financial transactions into accounting software from source documents like invoices, receipts, and purchase orders.
- Record keeping: Maintaining accurate financial records, including ledgers and spreadsheets, by updating balances and classifying transactions.
- Bank reconciliation: Comparing bank statements to the general ledger to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy.
- Accounts payable/receivable: Processing invoices, generating customer statements, and tracking payments due.
- Process piecework payroll/assist in other payroll items for the payroll clerk
- Report generation: Preparing financial reports like income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements as needed.
- Filing: Maintaining organized filing systems for financial documents.
- Customer interaction: Answering customer inquiries related to invoices and payments.
- Vendor communication: Contacting vendors regarding invoices and payments.
- Compliance: Adhering to company accounting policies and relevant regulations.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, or related field
- At least two years of experience in accounts payable or similar role
- Proficient in accounting software, such as Acumatica, Sage, or Oracle123
- Knowledgeable of accounting principles, practices, and standards, such as GAAP24
- Skilled in data entry, math, and analysis
- Detail-oriented, organized, and accurate
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Able to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
