CTE MIDDLE SCHOOL ROBOTICS/MANUFACTURING 

 STANDARD POSITION DESCRIPTION 

 

Classification:  Certificated                                                  Location:  Assigned School(s) 

  

Reports to: Principal or Assistant Principal                             FLSA Status: Exempt 

  

Bargaining Unit: NTEA 

  

This is a standard position description to be used for certificated teaching positions with similar duties, responsibilities, classification and compensation.  Teachers assigned to the position description may or may not be assigned all of the duties identified herein.  

  

This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and teacher and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change. 

 

LOCATION: North Thurston Public Schools/Chinook Middle School  

 

CTE has three primary goals in the North Thurston Public Schools: 

  • Integrate 21st Century Standards in courses and CTSO’s. 
  • Align standards to post-secondary articulations or recognized industry certifications. 
  • Connect students to careers in the various fields. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  1. Valid CTE Certification or ability to achieve certification 
  2. Previous experience in a similar setting
  3. Industry related experience
  4. Knowledge of: Robotics/STEM or Computer Science Courses or Manufacturing Technology.
  5. Knowledge of Skills USA, FLL or equivalent CTSOs
  6. Knowledge and incorporation of 21st Century Learning Skills 
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of grade appropriate Classroom Based Assessments for Career and Technical Education. 
  8. Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels. 
  9. Evidence of providing for individual student learning styles. 
  10. Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues. 
  11. Evidence of alignment to Common Core State Standards in Construction/Manufacturing curriculum 
  12. Evidence of excellent inter-personal skills with other staff members, organization, and ability to follow standard operating procedures. 
  13. Dynamic, interactive, student involving, hands-on instructional style. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Teacher Certification in CTE Technical Education 
  • Ability to develop CTE Frameworks in Robotics, Computer Science, Manufacturing or Pre-Engineering in alignment to 21st Century Skills and Common Core State Standards
  • Knowledge of Skills USA Competition or other Student Leadership options (CTSOs)

  

JOB DESCRIPTION   

  1. Assume responsibility for the CTE Robotics/Manufacturing Programs. 
  2. Attend CTE Trainings. 
  3. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request. 
  4. Make a commitment of time and energy required to teach all students, regardless of learning style or learning limitations. 
  5. Commit to bell-to-bell instruction using best practices including student evaluation (formative assessment). 
  6. Create a safe and positive learning environment for all students. This includes adequately securing class and practice rooms when not physically present to supervise. 
  7. Hold or attend CTE Advisory Meetings, minimum of three a year.
  8. Will advise/direct students to leadership organization- Skills USA and/or FLL (First Lego League).
  9. Adhere to all North Thurston Public School’s policies and expectations for staff and students. 
  10. Actively engage students in the learning process. 
  11. Regularly incorporate higher level thinking and analytical skills in instruction, assessment and performance. 
  12. Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others. 
  13. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and colleagues. 
  14. Be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education. 
  15. Be committed to success for all students. 
  16. Participate in workshops and training sessions that support building and district programs and goals.  This includes monthly staff meetings and professional development days. 
  17. Maintain a secure classroom/shop environment. 
  18. Supervise student activities outside the school day as appropriate. 
  19. Complete appropriate CTE Robotics and Manufacturing training.

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours  during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

 

Eligible employees  are required to be a member of the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems Plan. .  For eligibility  information, check on the link to the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.

 

Employees also have the ability to participate in tax deferred 403(b) and 457 Deferred Compensation Plans (DCP). These are supplemental retirement savings programs that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
