TITLE OF POSITION: CONTRACTUAL HUMAN SERVICES PREVENTIONIST

POSITION SUMMARY: The Human Services Preventionist is a contracted position dedicated to supporting the well-being of individuals, families, and the Tribal Community through prevention-based services. This role involves leading and developing group programming for children, youth, and adults with a strong emphasis on mental health and substance abuse prevention, parenting support, and education.
The Preventionist will serve as a Group Leader for the Boys’ and Girls’ W.A.R.R.I.O.R.S. Prevention Groups (Willing to be A Responsible Respectful Individual on Our Reservation and in Society), targeting youth ages 5–16. The position also includes establishing and facilitating adult-focused groups such as parenting classes and mental health/substance abuse education for family members of victims.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and facilitate youth prevention groups (alternating weekly between boys and girls), providing at least two sessions per month for each group.
- Plan and facilitate adult education and support groups focusing on parenting, mental health, and substance abuse topics.
- Assess participant needs during group sessions and develop individualized case plans.
- Provide guidance and referrals to appropriate services for participants and families.
- Collaborate with internal staff and outside agencies to coordinate wraparound servicesMaintain accurate, confidential documentation, including progress notes and outcome reports.
- Participate in staff meetings to review concerns and make recommendations or referrals as appropriate.
- Stay current with best practices and developments in human services, mental health, and prevention strategies.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Louisiana (required).
- Minimum of two years of experience working with children, families, and individuals experiencing challenges such as substance abuse, mental health concerns, or abuse/neglect.
- Strong facilitation skills, particularly with youth and diverse populations.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and crisis intervention skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Cultural competence and sensitivity when working with Tribal communities.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, to maximize participant engagement.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to successfully pass a background screening/investigation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This contracted role averages 6–10 hours per week, including time for group preparation, facilitation, documentation, and collaboration. Evening availability is required to accommodate participant schedules. Group sessions will be conducted four days per week, alternating boys' and girls’ groups weekly.
