What are the responsibilities and job description for the Criminal Division Chief Assistant Tribal Prosecutor position at Choctaw Nation?
Job Purpose or Objective(s): Responsible for prosecuting criminal, juvenile, quasi-civil, wildlife, traffic, and deprived actions on behalf of the Choctaw Nation as assigned by the Lead Tribal Prosecutor. Responsible for guidance, training, and delegation of work for other Assistant Prosecutors and support staff. You will report to the Lead Tribal Prosecutor.
Starting Salary: $120,000/year
Primary Tasks:
1. You will manage dockets and supervise work of other Assistant Tribal Prosecutors and Admin staff.
2. Represent the Choctaw Nation in criminal matters within the jurisdiction of the Choctaw Nation as assigned by the Tribal Prosecutor.
3. Represent the Choctaw Nation in juvenile cases and deprived actions within the jurisdiction of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
4. Review police reports and affidavits to determine appropriate charge in criminal matters.
5. You will appear on criminal and juvenile dockets as assigned.
6. Maintain good inter-departmental relations and communication with the judicial department, Children and Family Services, state offices, law enforcement and legal departments.
7. Help draft legislation affecting criminal laws, to be considered by the Tribal Council.
8. Prepare legal notices and pleadings in criminal actions.
9. Prepare and litigated civil forfeiture actions.
10. Perform other tasks as may be assigned.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctorate from accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law by a State within the United States
- Experience with criminal, juvenile, and deprived case procedures.
- Application of professional knowledge and ability by possessing strong judgment and evaluation skills
- Courtroom experience (including jury trials)
- Five [5] years of experience as a prosecuting attorney, public defender, and/or tribal attorney general position
