Job Purpose or Objective(s): As a Utility Analyst, you will conduct highly analytical and detail-oriented analysis of all utility operations by collecting, analyzing, and evaluating all data related to utility operations, primarily in the energy or water sectors. You will improve operational efficiency, cost management, and regulatory compliance. You will report to the Utility Accounts Supervisor.
Primary Tasks:
1. Collect, organize, and analyze large volumes of data pertaining to utility operations, including energy usage patterns, infrastructure performance, customer billing operation, regulatory compliance, and financial data.
2. Conduct performance evaluations by monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and comparing actual performance against established benchmarks or industry standards.
3. Evaluate cost structures and financial data to identify cost savings and efficiency enhancement opportunities. Conduct cost-benefit analyses of projects, technologies, or operational changes to determine their impact on utility operations and financial viability.
4. Stay informed about regulatory requirements and ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards. Assist in preparing regulatory filings, responding to inquiries from regulatory bodies, and participating in regulatory proceedings.
5. Contribute to long-term strategic planning by analyzing historical data, market trends, and demand projections. Help develop future energy or water demand forecasts, identify infrastructure needs, and support resource planning efforts.
6. Conduct research on emerging industry trends, technologies, and best practices. Stay current with utility operation advancements and propose innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
7. Support energy efficiency and conservation initiatives by developing programs, analyzing energy-saving measures, and assessing their impact on utility operations and customer usage patterns.
8. You will perform any other duties as may be assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Associate degree in a relevant field such as economics, statistics, or related discipline, or 3 years of experience in lieu of education.
- Analyze complex data sets related to utility operations.
- Proficient in data analysis techniques, including data manipulation, regression analysis, and forecasting.
- Must have advanced Excel skills (can perform complex functions) and knowledge.
