Job Summary
The Overnight Behavioral Health Technician provides supervision, support, and care to clients within a behavioral health or substance abuse treatment facility. Working primarily through the night, the BHT monitors client behavior, ensures the safety of all clients, assists in implementing treatment plans, and helps maintain a supportive and stable environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Supervision: Monitor clients throughout the night to ensure a safe and secure environment. Conduct regular bed checks and document any unusual or concerning behaviors.
- Safety Monitoring: Respond to client needs, de-escalate any conflicts, and address issues or emergencies that arise. Follow facility protocols to handle situations effectively.
- Documentation: Record detailed notes on client behaviors, incidents, or any interventions in logbooks or electronic health records as per facility policies.
- Client Support: Provide emotional support and reassurance as needed, demonstrating empathy and maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
- Medication Oversight: Assist in managing medication routines under the supervision of clinical staff, ensuring proper administration and documentation.
- Team Communication: Relay pertinent information to incoming staff and clinical teams during shift change, ensuring continuity in client care.
- Environment Maintenance: Conduct room and facility checks, address safety hazards, and ensure all common areas remain organized and sanitary.
Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma, GED required or Associate's degree, with 2 years experience; Bachelor's or Master's degree, with one year experience in Behavior Health, or certification as a Behavioral Health Technician (Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred).
- Experience: Prior experience in a behavioral health, substance abuse, or medical setting is highly preferred. Experience working overnight shifts is a plus.
- Strong observational and documentation skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in crisis situations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire. Additional de-escalation or crisis intervention training preferred. Fingerprint clearance card. Driver's License.
Working Conditions
- Physical Requirements: Ability to remain alert and responsive throughout an overnight shift. May involve walking, standing, and performing light lifting.
- Environment: Treatment facility setting, adhering to protocols to maintain a safe and clean environment.
