Staff Accountant
Job Summary: Staff Accountant with Choptank Community Health (CCHS) is responsible for maintaining/monitoring daily treasury functions and purchase requisitions and expense management, maintaining capital outlay/fixed assets records and subsidiary ledger, preparing bank reconciliations, grant accounting, and additional accounting responsibilities as proficiency is demonstrated. This is a full-time exempt position. Physical location is in Denton, MD. This is an exempt, full-time position in pay grade 5 with the pay range of $49,365.00 - $69,111.00. The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Finance Director.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Clear and concise oral and written communication.
- Maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Must be a professional who takes initiative, can work independently without supervision, and maintain confidentiality.
- Must possess a valid drivers’ license and have dependable transportation.
- Must be proficient with a computer and with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of professional non-profit accounting principles, practices, and regulations
- Understanding of grant administration including grant compliance and audits.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting, or finance with minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in auditing, accounting, or grants management. (Preferably in healthcare)
- OR master’s degree in business, accounting, or finance with 1-3 years’ experience in auditing, accounting, or grants management. (Preferably in healthcare)
- Maryland CPA, preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains, reviews, and approves purchase requisitions and expense management transactions, including coding, to ensure proper month end close.
- Reviews and approves daily treasury workflow to include third party/patient payments and non-system receipts.
- Prepares daily electronic deposit reports.
- Prepares and maintains capital outlay/fixed assets records.
- Prepares monthly bank reconciliations.
- Prepares and maintains grant expenditure worksheets.
- Supports Finance Department as needed for regulatory and grant reporting, annual audits and budget.
- Completes other specialized duties assigned by the Finance Manager.
- Regular, reliable attendance is a requirement of this job.
