Position Summary
Chord Energy is seeking a Supervisor to lead the Operations and A&D Accounting team. This position will report directly to the Accounting Director and is located in downtown Houston, Texas. Hybrid work schedule is an option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Level and salary commensurate with background and experience.
Essential Job Functions
Oversee a team of 5-7 accountants of various experience levels, providing training, guidance, and mentoring.
Review journal entries for capital projects, accruals, depletion expense, impairment, and asset retirement obligations.
Advise internal stakeholders and ensure appropriate accounting treatment of acquired or divested properties, including the review of purchase and sale agreements, closing statements, and significant contracts.
Review budget versus actuals analysis and report on the results of operations for current month or quarterly periods.
Lead special projects such as accounting process improvement, automation, and system configuration/conversion to support our continuous improvement culture.
Perform technical accounting research and documentation to support complex transactions (e.g., business combinations, divestitures, impairment, and goodwill).
Communicate and explain complex accounting concepts within the department and to stakeholders throughout the organization.
Review balance sheet account reconciliations and flux analyses while meeting all month-end close deadlines.
Maintain SOX controls and respond to external audit, internal audit, and other requests as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
10 years of accounting experience, preferably related to the oil and gas upstream sector
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
Understanding of US GAAP and experience in GAAP accounting research
Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify opportunities to improve processes
Prior supervisory experience or team leadership
Effective communication skills, ranging from technical accounting topics to team development and mentoring
Strong time management and prioritization skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while ensuring accuracy
Ability to meet deadlines

CPA license
Experience with Enertia, SQL, PowerBI, Snowflake, and/or Assent143 Software
