JOB SUMMARY
The Head Coach - Women's Flag Football is responsible for leading and managing the women's flag football sport program, ensuring alignment with the University, Department of Athletics, NCAA, and conference regulations. This role focuses on recruiting student-athletes, overseeing team operations, and fostering their personal and athletic development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Execute all aspects of the sport program to achieve objectives aligned with the University, Department of Athletics, and NCAA/conference regulations.
- Recruit and retain highly skilled NCAA Division II student-athletes for the respective sport.
- Develop, monitor, and manage the annual budget for the program.
- Ensure adherence by student-athletes and assistant coaches to University policies, Department of Athletics guidelines, NCAA regulations, and conference rules.
- Oversee the conduct and discipline of student-athletes.
- Develop and implement a marketing plan to enhance visibility and support for the sport.
- Organize and conduct team practices, including strength and conditioning sessions and competitive games.
- Counsel student-athletes on sport participation and personal development, focusing on academic and athletic success.
- Raise private funds for the sport and assist other sports with marketing, promotion, and developmental services.
- Collaborate with Admissions and Financial Aid in recruiting student-athletes.
- Select, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and support personnel.
- Monitor and encourage the academic progress of student-athletes.
- Coordinate routine maintenance of the respective playing surface.
- Drive student-athletes to team activities or arrange transportation as needed.
- Represent the Department of Athletics on various University committees.
- Teach courses in the Department of Sports Studies and Physical Education as assigned by the Department Chair.
- Travel overnight as required for competitions and team activities.
- Work evenings and weekends during the season and as necessary.
- Perform additional functions and duties as requested by the Associate Vice President for Athletics/Director for Athletics and the Deputy Athletic Director.
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Thorough understanding of NCAA regulations and guidelines.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of constituencies within the community.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proven ability to recruit skilled players for the respective sport.
- Ability to counsel student-athletes on personal conduct, academic performance, and athletic participation, emphasizing sportsmanship.
- Capability to teach the fundamentals of the respective sport.
- Proficiency in preparing and maintaining accurate records and reports, particularly budget-related data.
- Ability to make administrative decisions and judgments effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster a cooperative environment.
- Ability to multitask and manage various responsibilities efficiently.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Previous coaching experience at the collegiate level or equivalent, with a proven track record of success.
