What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Summer Camp Teacher position at Christ Church Episcopal Preschool?
Christ Church Episcopal Preschool is a ministry of Christ Church Christiana Hundred serving children eighteen months through pre-kindergarten. Through a developmentally appropriate play-based and literacy-rich curriculum, we seek to promote a child's full potential – emotionally, academically, physically, and spiritually. Summer camp teachers will co-teach in a preschool classroom. This person is charged with creating appropriate activities and creating an environment of kindness, safety, and inclusivity, and aligned with the mission of Christ Church Episcopal Preschool.
Mission
Christ Church Episcopal Preschool educates young children, creates community among families, school, and church, and honors and nurtures children in the Episcopal tradition.
Terms of Employment:
· June 13, 2025 – August 15, 2025 (must commit to the entire week of camp either mornings or afternoon shifts)
*15 hours of professional training
*No camp week of July 4
· Reports to: Summer Camp Program Director
· Salary: $15-$22 per hour, based on qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience working with children
- Current CPR/FA certification
- Favorable Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry (before the start of camp)
- Tuberculin Test and Physical (before the start of camp)
- Mandatory direct deposit of paycheck
- Completion of health and medication administration courses through the University of Delaware and required by the program licensing authority (before the start of camp)
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of experience working with children
- A bachelor’s or associate degree in education, or p ursuing a degree in education)
- Current or eligible to hold Delaware certification as an Early Childhood Intern, Assistant Teacher, or Early Childhood/Elementary Teacher
Responsibilities
· Responsible for the care and education of young children within the guidelines and standards of CCEP.
- Follows the guidelines in the Employee Handbook and other directives for the care, safety, and education of children and other functions as required by the state licensing authority.
- Support colleagues and parents with a spirit of cooperation and approach all responsibilities with a willing, appreciative heart understanding that the successful nurture and education of children is always a cooperative effort.
- Consistently teach with integrity.
- Provide various materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use in learning activities and imaginative play.
- Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
- Maintain the classroom environment according to CCEP standards for organization, appropriate opportunities, and cleanliness.
- Attend to children's basic needs by feeding them, dressing them, and changing their diapers
- Include direct instruction to children helping them manage their personal needs and helping them increase responsibility for keeping their learning environment engaging, safe, and comfortable.
- Always use Conscious Discipline behavior management and classroom organization; to the exclusion of behavior management that rewards good behavior with food or toys and punishes undesirable behavior with consequences that are embarrassing, punitive, or uncomfortable for the child.
- Maintain behavior that models respect and responsibility and is in no way physical, embarrassing, or ridiculing for any child.
- Always keep all children in direct adult supervision.
- Communicate in a positive, direct, appropriate, and informative manner with parents, colleagues, administration, and head of school.
- Communicate regularly with families.
- Represent Christ Church Episcopal Preschool, professional colleagues, children, and their families with integrity, dignity, and respect.
- Acquire all certifications, professional training, and development as required by law and by Christ Church Episcopal Preschool promptly.
- Be kinder than necessary.
