Summer Encounters Facilities and Risk Management Coordinator (Seasonal)
The Facilities and Risk Management Coordinator at Summer Encounters is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of the camp facilities, ensuring that all spaces are safe, welcoming, and well-prepared for campers. The Facilities and Risk Management Coordinator reports directly to the Summer Encounters Operations Coordinator to ensure drop-off/ dismissal and mid-day camp processes run efficiently. The Facilities and Risk Management Coordinator collaborates closely with Christ Church Facilities, Maintenance and Security staff. Additionally, they are responsible for assisting the Operations Coordinator in preparing the campgrounds by setting up and moving necessary furniture or equipment, overseeing buses, and assessing grounds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facility Maintenance:
- Perform regular inspections of all camp buildings, playgrounds, activity areas, and equipment to identify and resolve maintenance or safety issues promptly.
- Coordinate with the Facilities and Maintenance team when repairs and maintenance are necessary.
- Drop-Off/Dismissal and Mid-day Procedures:
- Assist with managing the arrival and departure areas to ensure that campers are safely and quickly moved between vehicles and camp areas, while maintaining proper check-in/check-out procedures.
- Monitor camper transitions to ensure that all children are safely accounted for, and assist with any special needs or requests related to camper pickup.
- Work with camp management to assess and review any safety incidents to improve future procedures.
- Campground Setup and Preparation:
- Plan, set up, and move furniture, mats, and camp equipment to prepare the campgrounds for each session.
- Ensure that all activity areas (indoor and outdoor) are properly equipped and organized before the start of each day or session.
- Collaborate with Operations Coordinator to determine equipment and layout needs for different activities, such as sports, arts and crafts, or group games.
- Ensure all equipment is safe, operational, and stored properly during camp sessions, including the movement of mats, seating, and other materials.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and train interns in strategies for safe transitions.
- Act as the primary point of contact for safety-related operations concerns and work collaboratively with the Operations Coordinator to resolve.
- Assist the Operations coordinator with organizing and leading staff training before the camp season begins.
- Environmental Health and Cleanliness:
- Ensure that all camp facilities are kept clean, sanitary, and in good working order throughout the camp season.
- Oversee proper waste management and recycling processes to maintain a clean and eco-friendly camp environment.
- Address any issues related to cleanliness, including monitoring food safety practices in dining areas.
Qualifications:
Strong Leadership Skills: Ability to manage and supervise a team, provide training, and lead by example.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and address facility-related or safety concerns quickly and effectively.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physical tasks such as facility inspections, light repairs, and ensuring the cleanliness of camp areas, including the lifting and moving of furniture and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a camp or recreational environment.
- Knowledge of risk management practices.
- Supervisory or team leadership experience.
Work Environment:
The position takes place at Christ Church Episcopal School, with both outdoor and indoor activity spaces.
- Requires supervising and engaging with children throughout the camp day, including during activities, meals, and breaks.
Compensation:
This is a seasonal hourly position with pay based on experience. The Summer Encounters season is May 26th - August 1st, with camp being closed June 30-July 4th. This position is based on a 35-40 hour week, with approximate hours being Monday - Friday 8am - 3pm, with additional Early Care and Late Stay hours assigned on a rotating basis.
