Summer Encounters Staff Success Coordinator (Seasonal)
The Staff Success Coordinator at Summer Encounters plays a pivotal role in fostering a positive and inclusive camp culture, ensuring the success of camp counselors, and providing essential support to camp instructors. As an Intern and Counselor Leader, this position involves scheduling counselors, ensuring they adhere to camp expectations, and directly assisting instructors during activities. The Staff Success Coordinator will also collaborate with the Operations Coordinator to plan and execute camp-wide events, assemblies, and special activities, all while maintaining a focus on staff support, morale, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
Foster Positive Camp Culture:
- Encourage teamwork, communication, and respect among staff, while leading by example to maintain an upbeat and motivating atmosphere.
- Actively engage with staff and campers, helping to resolve conflicts, foster relationships, and ensure a supportive and happy camp culture.
- Assist with Counselor Scheduling and Compliance:
- Work closely with the Operations Coordinator to create and maintain counselor schedules, ensuring proper coverage across all camp activities.
- Monitor and ensure that counselors adhere to their responsibilities and job expectations, providing ongoing feedback and support.
- Address any challenges staff are experiencing to ensure they get the support needed.
- Lead counselors through strategies to stay organized, motivated, and aligned with the camp’s goals and expectations.
- Assist with Instructor Support:
- Work closely with the Operations Coordinator to provide hands-on assistance to camp instructors, ensuring they have the necessary resources, space, and support for running their activities.
- Act as a liaison between instructors and counselors, facilitating communication to ensure the smooth execution of activities and transitions.
- Assist with training, mentoring, and supporting instructors to help them deliver high-quality, engaging programs for campers.
- Assist with Event and Assembly Planning:
- Work closely with the Operations Coordinator to plan and execute camp-wide events, assemblies, and special activities.
- Help manage logistics for these events, such as coordinating supplies, ensuring staff readiness, and organizing spaces activities.
- Support with event promotion, communication with staff, and scheduling.
- Staff Support and Leadership Development:
- Serve as a mentor and guide for counselors, providing constructive feedback, encouragement, and resources for their professional development.
- Provide regular check-ins with staff to track progress, address concerns, and celebrate successes.
- Help organize training sessions, team-building activities, and morale-boosting initiatives to ensure staff are feeling supported and valued throughout the camp season.
Qualifications:
Experience in Camp or Youth Leadership: Previous experience as a camp counselor, team leader, or in a youth-oriented role is preferred.
- Strong Leadership Skills: Ability to motivate, support, and guide staff to success, while fostering a positive and productive camp culture.
- Conflict Resolution Skills: Ability to mediate and resolve staff conflicts or challenges in a constructive manner.
- Team-Oriented: Must be collaborative and work effectively with a diverse group of staff and leadership.
- Positive and Enthusiastic Attitude: A passion for camp culture, working with staff, and creating a positive environment for everyone.
Preferred Qualifications:
Background in leadership development, mentoring, or coaching.
- Experience in event planning or coordinating group activities.
- Prior work with youth in a camp, school, or recreational setting.
Work Environment:
The position takes place at Christ Church Episcopal School, with both outdoor and indoor activity spaces.
- Requires supervising and engaging with children throughout the camp day, including during activities, meals, and breaks.
Compensation:
This is a seasonal hourly position with pay based on experience. The Summer Encounters season is May 26th - August 1st, with camp being closed June 30-July 4th. This position is based on a 35-40 hour week, with approximate hours being Monday - Friday 8am - 2pm, with additional Early Care and Late Stay hours assigned on a rotating basis.
