Position Overview

We are seeking a faithful, dynamic, and qualified individual to serve as the Executive Pastor for our healthy intergenerational church. This person provides spiritual leadership, collaborative leadership, and administrative leadership.

Spiritual Leadership

• Evident Faith- A committed disciple of Jesus with clear evidence of their spiritual maturity for others to see.
• Culture Creator- Encourages unity, transparency, grace, and diligence in the team.
• Strategic Thinker- Solves problems, thinks Big Picture, and puts vision into practice.
• Gifted Communicator- Shares through teaching and preaching biblically and practically.
• Pastoral Compassion- Walks with others through drastic transitions and the mundane to help people notice God.
• Hospitable Presence- Cultivates a welcoming and inviting atmosphere through their presence and systems.

Collaborative Leader

• Leader Developer- Provides guidance, support, and oversight to various staff members and ministry leaders.
• Bridge Builder- Constantly connecting people to people, resources to people, and people to opportunities.
• Vision Implementation- Partnering with other leaders this person creates and runs systems to move the vision forward.
• Community Ambassador- Engages in the community to help be a positive presence with and for others outside the church.

Administrative Leadership

• Team Oriented- Works with multiple teams throughout the church to provide care, vision, and support to the ministry of the entire church.
• Operational Oriented- Helps see projects to completion, willing to provide energy to behind-the-scenes matters.
• System Builder- Creates and runs systems that empower the congregation to utilize their gifts for the good of the church and the community.

Experience and Qualifications

• Educational Background: A graduate degree in ministry or theology is preferred though experience could substitute for education.
• Work Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years in ministry or ministry-related work is preferred. Past or present ordination or credentials are preferred. This person would be willing to get ministry credentials with consultation of the church’s leadership.
• Wesleyan Theology: This person should have a background in the Wesleyan Theological tradition and be willing to embrace and teach the church’s theology.

Characteristics Desired

This individual is gracious and compassionate. They are a magnet that people are drawn to and bring people together. They can help people open up and share meaningful moments. An 80-year-old person who has never missed a Sunday and a 25-year-old who has never been to church feels safe in their presence.

This person is a problem-solver who sees problems while they are still small. They are not afraid of conflict but can manage conflict with grace and truth. They are willing and confident to confront and challenge the Lead Pastor as needed.

This person is a team player and serves as needed, comfortable on stage and behind the scenes. They care about the team and the mission more than they care about the credit. They are a great teammate whom people desire to work with again because the project was done with excellence and the team had fun along the way. They love to see a project done through completion and are especially good at empowering others to finish well.

The Executive Pastor is confident, but not cocky with a proven record of success. He or she is humble, continually learning and growing, and ready to teach others what they are learning.

About Christ Church on Harvard

Christ Church on Harvard is a 70-year-old church with a rich past, a vibrant present, and a bright future in Midtown Tulsa in the Wesleyan/Methodist tradition. Christ Church is a full-service church that has a wide variety of ministries connecting people to God and each other.

Christ Church is an innovative church that has continually adapted to changing times and needs. Currently, the church is going through a leadership transition as the Lead Pastor of 19 years is retiring, and the current associate pastor is becoming the new Lead Pastor. The church is restructuring and reorienting its staff structure.

Since 1969, the church has only had two Lead Pastors, and that continuity has created a healthy church and staff. The church is full of leaders who take their roles and their calling seriously, but do not take themselves too seriously. Joy, laughter, and delight permeate the classrooms, hallways, and sanctuary of the church.

Other Notes about the Position:

This position could be part-time or full-time depending on the need and gifting of the applicant and the staffing structure of the church leadership as it decides on multiple positions. This would be a salaried position, with paid time off, health insurance (if full-time), a pension available, and housing allowance (for credentialed ministers). Salary is negotiable depending on the experience and qualifications of the applicant.
