What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children’s Ministry Coordinator position at Christ Episcopal Church?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Children's Ministry Coordinator's primary role is to build strong, positive relationships with children and families while providing them opportunities to form their Christian faith, help to instill the value of service, and build community. This a part-time 10 hours per week (on average) position, depending on needs related to scheduled events, hours may occasionally increase ( 20 hours max) and vary.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program Development and Implementation: Plan and execute age-appropriate Christian education programs (e.g., Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, seasonal activities) for children ages 3 years - 5th grade. Develop curriculum in alignment with Episcopal values and theology. Organize service projects to help children learn the importance of service and community.
- Relationship Building: Build positive, supportive relationships with children, parents, and families. Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for spiritual growth. Communicate regularly with parishioners and families via monthly Clarion articles, social media, bulletin boards, and/or other methods.
- Volunteer Recruitment and Management: Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers to support programs and events including, but not limited to: Nursery & Sunday School (ensuring adequate weekly coverage for both), St. Nicholas Party, Christmas Eve Pageant, Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School, etc. Provide resources, encouragement, and clear expectations to volunteers.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain attendance and participation records. Ensure compliance with Safe Church policies, including background checks for volunteers. Manage the children’s ministry budget in collaboration with leadership. Maintain upkeep of storage closet and supply cabinets in all classrooms and nursery.
- Collaboration and Leadership: Partner with other ministry leaders to integrate active children’s ministry into parish life. Participate in Staff Meetings (weekly), Worship Committee Meetings (quarterly), and other relevant meetings, providing insight into children’s spiritual needs. Be present and visible at worship services and events to connect with families.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Passion for nurturing children’s faith and building community.
- Availability to work Sundays and Holy Days including Christmas Eve and Easter.
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills such as time management and self-direction.
- Creativity and energy in planning engaging programs and events.
- Ability to adapt and work collaboratively with a team.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills including database, internet, and scheduling.
- Experience working with children in educational or ministry settings.
- Ability to pass a background check and safe church training course.
- Preferred: familiarity with Episcopal traditions and theology.
PROPOSED COMPENSATION:
- Hourly Rate: $16/hour.
- Salaries are distributed semi-monthly (15th and final day of the month), direct deposit, per the church payroll schedule.
- As a W-2 employee, state/federal tax and Social Security withholdings are deducted.
