Company Description
The Lead Special Needs Pastor is a key leader in the overall campus operation, with a primary focus on creating an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with special needs and their families. The Lead Special Needs Pastor will collaborate with the Special Needs Pastor and Kids/Students Ministry to ensure that children, teens, and adults are included to the greatest extent possible. This role is responsible for recruiting, leading, and developing a team of volunteers, and building strong relationships with families to ensure their unique needs are met. The Lead Special Needs Pastor will also oversee the Special Needs Pastor to provide specialized care and spiritual guidance.
Job Description
Essential Job Functions
- Identify, recruit, and train volunteer leaders, following all safety protocols and onboarding procedures to ensure appropriate training and background checks are completed.
- Foster personal relationships with families and volunteers through one-on-one interactions, school visits, and active engagement in the community.
- Connect with both new and existing families, offering support and resources tailored to their unique needs.
- Oversee all ministry areas within the Special Needs Ministry to ensure programming is inclusive, effective, and aligned with church values.
- Cast vision to parents about available resources, guiding them on how to engage their children with biblical teachings at home.
- Ensure the ministry is running smoothly and optimally, achieving key ministry goals.
- Create a fun, engaging, and safe environment for individuals with special needs to experience God’s love and grow spiritually.
- Collaborate with the Campus Pastor to increase overall and special needs attendance on campus.
- Lead and empower the ministry team to ensure goals are being met and resources are allocated appropriately.
- Assist in planning and executing key church and department events such as Night to Shine, Dad/Daughter Dinner, Volunteer Appreciation, Easter, Christmas Eve services, Exceptional Stars, Special Needs Camp, and Kids Camp
Uphold the vision and mission of the Special Needs Ministry
- Build and maintain strong relationships with parents, volunteers, and church leadership.
- Inspire and equip volunteers and staff to effectively lead within the special needs ministry.
- Hold team members accountable to ministry goals, deadlines, and expectations.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the Rock system to manage attendance, check-ins, and volunteer scheduling effectively.
- Manage budgetary needs for the Special Needs Ministry, ensuring efficient use of resources.
Provide leadership and development to the Special Needs Ministry team
- Provide leadership and supervision to volunteers, staff, and ministry leaders, ensuring a supportive and positive team environment.
- Participate in staff development by providing guidance on performance, feedback, and direction.
- Collaborate with leadership on staffing decisions, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and, if necessary, termination or promotion.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and volunteers, offering support and addressing any concerns promptly.

Education and Experience
- A degree, training in a related field, or ministry proven experience preferred
- Knowledgeable of the Bible
- Experience working with youth and volunteers preferred
- Working knowledge of the business of the church and procedures is helpful
- Skilled in using a database for volunteer information, recruiting, and attendance is a plus (i.e. Rock)
