Founded in 1921, Christchurch is located on a 125-acre waterfront campus on the Rappahannock River in eastern Virginia’s tidewater region. The school’s Mission is to inspire and guide each student's pursuit of personal excellence in academics and character so they are prepared for meaningful lives as engaged citizens and community leaders.
Position Overview. Christchurch School seeks a full-time Assistant/Associate Director of College Counseling to work with, and assist, the Director of College Counseling. This position will work with a caseload of students in their junior and senior years and lead projects as guided by the Director of College Counseling.
Christchurch School fosters a student-centered approach to pedagogical practices, valuing the craft of teaching and embracing the boarding school model for meaningful education of the whole child. Equally, employees at CCS are expected to foster an inclusive workplace and contribute to a community built on equitable policies and procedures. This position also contributes to the school by leading an advisory of 7-10 students, being part of a duty team one evening per week and 6-7 weekends per year, and participating in two seasons of co-curriculars (particular areas of need are men’s and women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, sailing, and football).

Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Director of College Counseling in designing and implementing a program for students and families to counsel them through the college admissions process.
- Provide individualized expert advice on the college search, standardized testing, course selection and financial aid.
- Write detailed and compelling letters of recommendation for senior students and coordinate the delivery of application materials to colleges (approx. caseload of 30-35 seniors).
- Cultivate and sustain relationships with college reps, including hosting them on our campus.
- Engage in professional development to stay current with the evolving trends in college admissions, visit college campuses, and attend conferences as appropriate.
- Contribute to the vibrant life of a busy boarding/day school by acting as advisor to a small group of students and performing evening and weekend duty on a rotating basis throughout the year.
- Contribute to the co-curricular program two out of three seasons
- Manage other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Strong technology skills and ability to learn new technology platforms
- Candidates should be realistic and excited about teaching in a boarding school
- Prior experience in college admissions, either as a high school counselor or college admission officer.
- Proficiency or experience with programs like Scoir, Slate, the Common Application, NCAA Initial Eligibility Center, and FAFSA/CSS Profile.
- Ability to work with a team of teachers and students outside of the classroom on multi-day field experiences
- Ability to be mobile around campus and buildings
- Ability to work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods
- Some travel required
