Job Description
Scope
The Support Specialist is responsible for collaborating with teachers, administrators and other support staff to assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups of students, specifically focusing on those with sensory or transitional behavior support needs. This position requires working closely with early elementary and preschool students to foster their academic and social development, ensuring that interventions are implemented effectively to support student success in the classroom environment. The Supports Specialist will also assist in evaluating the classroom environment to identify any areas needing additional support and administer appropriate interventions as required.This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the development and success of students with unique learning and transition/behavior needs, while working collaboratively in a supportive educational environment.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate shall prior to start date provide/successfully complete the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
- Copy of transcript of highest degree earned
- CPR & First Aid Training
- Criminal Records Check
- Child Abuse and Neglect Check (CAN)
- Must be 18 years of age
- Previous professional experience with children, preferred Behavior and/or sensory intervention training preferred
Accountabilities / Responsibilities
The Support Specialist shall:
- Work up to 20 flexible hours during the summer to prepare for student success: visit therapies, create social stories,parent communication, etc. as needed
- Care for and treat each child with dignity and respect
- Assure each child he/she is loved, that they have value, that God made them special (II Tim. 2:15) and pray for each teacher and student
- Report to work on ES elementary school schedule
- Be responsible for assisting and supporting the classroom teachers: transition of interventions should be to the classroom/ER team
- Collaborate with classroom teacher and other support staff to meet student needs
- Provide classroom behavioral/sensory/environmental support
- Assist teacher, principal, JA director, and educational resource team with carrying out individualized student plans
- Work with the student’s OT and Implement/provide training for the OT’s recommended daily sensory diet
- Help teachers and administrators collect A,B,C behavioral data
- Attend and participate in team meetings
- Participate in school wide professional development, recommended training programs, workshops, courses, etc. as needed
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Interact and collaborate with staff, students and families in a professional manner
- Maintain confidentiality
- Help in preparation of necessary materials for lessons/activities Perform all other duties as assigned
Outcomes
- Ongoing assistance to early ed (primary and preschool) students
- Successful transition for students with sensory needs into the school environment Provide ongoing feedback and guidance to students and staff, helping to create a positive, inclusive and structured learning environment that encourages student independence while maintaining supports to foster growth
Reporting Relationship
The support specialist is responsible to the Providence Director and dual reports to the Principal .
