SUMMARY
The Senior Newsroom Operations Coordinator works with the Editor and Managing Editor to set a tone of order, harmony, and efficiency in the Boston newsroom, providing prayerful and practical support for the editorial operations of The Christian Science Monitor around the world.
Internally, the incumbent joyfully serves the mission of the Monitor by keeping newsroom operations humming along smoothly, thereby freeing up staff to focus fully on producing outstanding Monitor journalism. This includes providing punctual, accurate, thorough responses on administrative questions; supporting meetings and editorial workflows with an eye toward efficiency; and planning staff events that develop strong teamwork and professional excellence.
In addition, the incumbent serves as a key Monitor liaison with the broader Church. This includes building and maintaining active, effective, and efficient partnerships with TMC departments such as the Treasurer's Office, Human Resources, and Office of the General Counsel, to coordinate all aspects of staffing, onboarding, and nurturing of Monitor editorial staff, including contract writers and freelancers, and interns. It also includes supporting the Editor's communications with readers and subscribers, and developing proactive strategies to improve the reach and impact of such communications.
The Senior Newsroom Operations Coordinator understands the Monitor's basic budget and staffing structure, and in coordination with the CSPS Manager and Managing Editor, expertly manages key aspects of Monitor operations, including contracts, contributor payments, insurance coverage for global reporters, freelancers, and fixers, and expense reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with Editor and Managing Editor on strategic newsroom issues (25%)
Model a consistently high standard of order, joy, and efficiency in support of the Monitor's mission
Keep Editor abreast of Field communication and draft timely, thoughtful correspondence on the Editor's behalf
Coordinate paperwork and logistics of hiring of staff, freelancers, and interns
Maintain internal calendars and scheduling; assist with travel arrangements as needed

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education / Experience
College degree or equivalent experience. A minimum of three to five years of related professional experience preferred.
Knowledge / Skills
Incumbent should be discerning, kind, proactive, efficient, and joyful. Must have demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Incumbent is expected to be a strong writer and grammarian and have outstanding interpersonal skills for effective communication with employees, management, and contributors. Ability to deliver timely results and work both collaboratively and independently. Confidentiality is paramount.
Technology Skills
Individual must have strong word-processing skills (such as Google Suite or Microsoft). Must be technically proficient and willing to learn new software applications such as Trello, Jira, Confluence, Salesforce, EZ Publish, Adobe InCopy / K4, etc. Strong technical skills and aptitude are preferred.
Work Environment
Boston-based; little to no travel is anticipated. Must enjoy working in a team environment, be detail-oriented, highly motivated and have the ability to multi-task projects and deadlines. Must have flexibility and willingness to adapt as needed.
Engagement with Christian Science
Mother Church membership required; Primary class instruction is preferred.
