What are the responsibilities and job description for the Central Sterile Technician - Central Sterile position at Christie Clinic?
Christie Clinic's department of Central Sterile is seeking a full-time Central Sterile Technician from Monday - Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm at the Fields clinic.
Duties include receiving, processing, maintaining and distributing autoclavable goods. This position requires the ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities in cooperation with the clinical requirements. One year experience as a Central Sterile Technician preferred.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Demands include prolonged standing and walking. Technicians must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and operate department machinery. Hearing within, or correctable to, normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of department equipment is required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a laboratory environment where employees must occasionally work beyond normal office hours. Exposure to sharp instruments, toxic chemicals, steam, strong cleaning fluids and bodily fluids may occur. There is a potential risk of handling hazardous or infectious materials.
JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Receive contaminated instruments from various departments.
- Dress in appropriate PPE, as required.
- Clean and disinfect instruments following standardized procedures, including soaking, rinsing and drying them using various chemical solutions.
- Examine instruments for defects, reject those not at acceptable standards and arrange for repair or replacement.
- Select proper instruments and wrapping trays following standardized procedures or provider preference card.
- Autoclave trays and loose-packed instruments using sterilizer.
- Distribute sterile instruments and/or packs to the clinical areas.
- Perform designated quality assurance tests and complete accompanying documentation on each tray of sterilized equipment.
- Maintain log of items distributed to various departments.
- Maintain proper inventory levels of supplies and instruments for the clinic.
- Perform related work as required.
- Ability to transport instrumentation between buildings using a Christie Clinic approved Vehicle
