In an effort to cultivate new talent and nurture long-standing relationships, whilst also putting steam behind our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts, we are actively seeking students who bring a variety of unique perspectives and backgrounds to Christie’s to participate in our newly imagined Christie’s Internship Program. This internship program will run from Tuesday, September 6, 2022 – Friday, June 9, 2023. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) paid opportunity for students who have recently graduated (within two years of either undergrad or a graduate program). Christie’s has been a leader in working with museums and non-profit institutions for over three decades. We were the first auction house to create a Museum Services department dedicated to serving these organizations’ unique needs. Our experienced team partners with institutions large and small, including historical societies, libraries, universities and art museums—both encyclopedic and niche in scope. We handle projects of every size and subject matter, from single objects to large collections, from antiquities to historical manuscripts, from decorative arts to contemporary art. Specific duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to: General department administrative tasks as assigned by line manager Keeping all data up to date in Christie’s internal systems Assisting specialists with provenance research, managing the department library and consignor files Responding to inquiries from clients for condition reports, images and fact sheets Researching works for upcoming sales – including both traditional research, using Christie’s onsite libraries, as well as public libraries in New York City, and also online research using auction databases and other internet sources Proficiency in Excel, with familiarity with Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, match formulas, and macros are a plus Assist Catalogers and Specialists with cataloguing and condition checks for consigned property Supporting the proposal preparation process Attending “hilling” sessions, during which our specialists review works and share their knowledge Assist with installing for auction previews, which includes compiling, printing, and mounting lot cards for each work Assist with exhibition set up and property matainance Support Analysts with client research; Artnet searches, compiling spreadsheets of competitive sales, and catalogue research for object intelligence The Candidate We are looking for hard-working, energetic, and intellectually curious self-starters who can thrive in a high pressure environment. Our most successful interns are those who truly embrace the experience and are not afraid to take every opportunity that is presented to them. They ask questions and are keen to learn about the entire auction process. Passion for the 20th century Design Strategic and commercially minded Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office Proficiency in Excel, with familiarity with Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, match formulas, and macros are a plus Additional language skills are desirable, however not mandatory Superior client service skills Strong follow-up and attention to detail Candidates must be undergraduate students, master’s students, or within one year of graduation from University; either undergraduate or masters International Candidates International individuals may apply for a U.S. internship as long as they have the necessary visa status.
