What are the responsibilities and job description for the Litigation Paralegal position at Christina Pendleton and Associates?
SUMMARY OF ROLE:
Our Litigation Paralegals work closely with our personal injury department to assist attorneys with cases that will be or have been filed in Virginia’s Circuit Courts and General District Courts. This position reports to our Senior Litigation Paralegal.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
- Manage all phases of litigation including investigation, pleadings, and discovery through the pre-trial, trial, settlement, and appeal process.
- Support attorneys with all litigation cases;
- Client communication;
- Process litigation correspondence such as mail, faxes, and emails;
- Communicate with court and defense counsel regarding case scheduling and deadlines;
- Draft pleadings for attorney modification and review;
- Send subpoenas, FOIAs, spoliation letters, and other correspondence necessary for investigation and litigation;
- Coordinate process service for legal filings;
- Schedule depositions, hearings, and other case related appointments;
- Draft medical chronologies and statement of damages for attorney review;
- Perform high-level legal research;
- Assist in trial preparation;
- Other duties as assigned to meet business needs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Experience drafting pleadings for General District Court and Circuit Court in Virginia;
- Ability to perform high-level legal research;
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills;
- Proven case management skills;
- Excellent time management with proven ability to meet deadline requirements;
- Ability to remain calm under pressure with a high level of professionalism;
- Problem solve without supervision or guidance;
- Maintain confidentiality and to use discretion in all interactions;
- Demonstrated high-level attention to detail
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 years of prior litigation paralegal experience required
- Associate’s degree or other higher education in legal or related field preferred Highly efficient with computers, computer software (Microsoft Office applications Excel, Word), and with a keystroke at least 65 wpm.
- Knowledge and experience with other relevant forms of data technology, including the use of email and case management software or other data input software.
- Proficient in Google and Microsoft Office software;
- Typing speed of at least 65 wpm.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.

- Bilingual English/ Spanish
