About this position:
Full time, Year-Round
Varies based on time of year. See below in description for reference.
Description of Position
Crew Leaders are experienced installers who also manage small to mid-sized projects. They are proficient in every category of installation, including décor, general lighting, light line, banners, and pole décor. However, they specialize in one of these categories and take ownership accordingly. Crew Leaders have Field Technicians and Drivers as direct reports and hold them accountable.
Crew Leaders work closely with the Senior Crew Leaders and Field Operations Manager in creating goals for the Field Ops department that are consistent with CLD’s vision. They will be required to attend and participate in weekly meetings, together with the Senior Crew Leaders and Field Ops Manager. They are CLD’s biggest advocate in the field and should be champions of CLD’s vision. They should be students of EOS and incorporate its principles into their management style.
The following is a general rule of thumb regarding responsibilities throughout the year:
Q1: April through June – This is the start of the off-season. Work will vary based on the needs within Operations on any given week. Off-season installations do occur, but at irregular intervals. These installations typically consist of light line maintenance or installations, tree lighting maintenance or installations, or other seasonal installations such as Easter or Fourth of July. Training and meetings will occur based on the needs that year, and under the direction of the Field Operations Manager. You are also expected to support any internal operation tasks as coordinated by the Field Operations Manager. These may include things like checking light strands, repairing décor products, inspecting and preparing miscellaneous materials for the season, etc.
Q2: July through September – July and most of August will be like Q1 as far as projects to be completed. Usually towards the end of August, lighting installations for the holiday season commence. General lighting and light line are the first areas of focus. In September, we will be fully engaged with these installations. Also starting in this Quarter, specifically in August, we will start to ramp up our hiring efforts. Under the direction of the Field Operations Manager, you will be involved in making sure new hires are trained appropriately.
Q3: October through December – The busy season is in full effect. October and November are the two busiest months of the year and Crew Leaders are expected to provide full support to CLD’s operation, primarily through field installations. During this quarter we also start banner, pole décor, and décor installations. As a Crew Leader, you will be expected to work whatever hours necessary to get the job done. These are blackout months for PTO—time off is for emergencies only and must be approved by the Field Operations Manager. Starting after Thanksgiving, we maintain all projects by performing repairs and weekly checks. This is an opportunity for you to see the effectiveness of your management throughout the installation season. The last week of December, we begin removals, starting with décor.
Q4: January through March - The first 2-3 weeks of January are dedicated to removing all décor projects. The focus during this time is like Q3, as you will be leading crews on CLD’s small to mid-sized projects. The key to a successful removal is ensuring everything is labelled and protected for transportation back to CLD’s warehouse. This is your primary responsibility. Also, you must make sure no CLD product or material is left on the Client’s property and should generally leave their space cleaner than we found it.
Once all the décor is removed, our focus turns to lighting removals.
