Departmental Objective
The Office of Human Resources (HR) helps create, instill and foster a phenomenal culture and community in which to work and learn at CNU, by attracting, hiring, serving, supporting and developing high-quality, capable and caring employees.
Purpose of the Position
Positively and significantly affects customer service and the delivery and service of HR
programs to CNU employees. Directly supports and assists in the delivery of comprehensive and complex human resources programs to employees including classification and compensation, benefits, training and development, employee relations and recruitment. Effectively manages front-office operations serving employees and all HR constituencies (CNU employees and numerous external populations). Effectively uses complex databases and spreadsheets. Serves as initial contact and resource of information for all employee and community inquiries and answers inquiries using considerable and complex knowledge of program requirements, policies, procedures and guidelines. Resolves problems as needed.

Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of office practices, operations and procedures, knowledge of the executive role, level of function, responsibility, accountability, and environment; knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, letter and report writing, computational arithmetic; database and spreadsheet creation and use; knowledge of customer service and relations.
Skills: Skills in: the use of computers to include word processing, database and spreadsheet software; the correct use of grammar, spelling, punctuation; computational arithmetic to include decimals and percentages; providing tact and courtesy in dealing with other employees, students, faculty , and public; effective interpersonal and organizational skills; providing excellent oral and written communication skills; working accurately with details; demonstrating initiative; exhibiting discretion; demonstrating flexibility; formatting and writing formal letters and memoranda (composition skills); providing office management skills; excellent organizational skills; maintaining inventory, managing complex files.
Abilities: Ability to: manage executive office operations; work with complex and comprehensive programs requiring the ability to understand, interpret and disseminate complex written guidelines and regulations; perform moderate to difficult operational duties; develop and use databases and spreadsheets; develop and maintain very positive customer relations within the office as well as with extensive on and off-campus constituencies; organize work to ensure the timely delivery of services and support; make independent work flow and priority decisions; manage multiple projects; develop high-quality written correspondences to include memoranda, email, letters and reports.
Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required
Education: High school graduate or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma
Experience:
- Experience in office management
- Experience with word processing, database and spreadsheet software
- Experience working with the public or providing customer service
Additional Consideration(s)
Education:
- College coursework in secretarial science or related studies or a Bachelor’s degree.
Experience:
- Experience working at a VA state agency
- Experience with onboarding documents such as tax forms and/or I-9 documents
- Experience in an educational institution
- Experience managing an office inventory and/or budget
- Experience working with eVA purchasing system
- Experience formatting and writing formal letters and memoranda
- Experience managing personnel files
Salary Information
Starting at $40,000 commensurate education and experience
