Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Reviews requisitions.
- Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information, such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
- Selects products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items.
- Estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
- Determines method of procurement, such as direct purchase or bid.
- Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.
- Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
- Maintains manual or computerized procurement records, such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
- May approve invoices for payment.
- May expedite delivery of goods to users.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Mandatory:
- Associated Degre in Business Administration or related field. Additional experience may be substituted for education on the basis of two (2) years of experience for one (1) year of education.
- Ability to type a minimum of 55 WPM.
- Two years purchasing experience with a general range of commercial and industrial product knowledge.
- Must have knowledge and experience in the procedures and administration for subcontracts.
- Must possess strong computer skills to include practical experience working with spreadsheet and data base programs, including automated purchasing procedures and programs.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Must have and wear hard-toed safety shoes which meet ASTM F2413-05 standard.
- Successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must continually meet eligibility requirements for access.
