The Organization: This position will ideally be located at the Chugach Regional Resources Commission’s (CRRC) Alutiiq Pride Marine Institute (APMI) in Seward, AK. However, Anchorage may be considered. CRRC is a nonprofit intertribal fish and wildlife commission established to address environmental and natural resources issues of concern to its seven member Tribes, located in the Chugach Region of southcentral Alaska. These include Tatitlek Village IRA Council, Native Village of Eyak (Cordova), Port Graham Village Council, Nanwalek IRA Council, Chenega IRA Council, Qutekcak Native Tribe (Seward), and Valdez Native Tribe.
Position Description: CRRC implements an Indian Environmental General Assistance Program (IGAP) grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA IGAP is focused on capacity-building and is intended to help the organization plan, develop, and establish its own environmental protection programs in accordance with federal laws and EPA guidelines. The IGAP Environmental Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of regional IGAP projects that address environmental concerns in the Chugach region. The IGAP Coordinator is to build the administrative capacity in order to implement environmental protection programs that will protect human health, the environment, and subsistence culture.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement the IGAP program.
- Write the IGAP work plans and budgets and perform the work according to the approved work plan and within the approved budget.
- Ensure grant deliverables are met, and programs are carried out in accordance with funder requirements.
- Seek and develop other grant applications for environmental program sustainability based on community needs.
- Maintain and manage all records related to the grant.
- Communicate regularly with EPA and the Administration Team at CRRC.
- Prepare and submit quarterly reports, trip reports, etc. to the EPA Administrator and CRRC Board as needed/requested.
- Assist in researching and compiling village environmental priority lists.
- Attend and present at annual conferences as outlined in detailed work plans.
- Attend various training courses and implement acquired knowledge into the job as outlined in detailed work plans.
- Provide support to other Environmental projects and staff as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Educational & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science (environment studies, biology, environmental education, or similar field) or closely related field.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files, and workplace terminology.
- Experience in working with Alaska Natives or other indigenous cultures in a capacity-building/training approach.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication
- High attention to detail with the ability to demonstrate sound judgment.
- Self-driven and flexible to change.
- Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work independently or as a team member with multiple tasks at hand and with set timeframes.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with Tribal, private, State, and Federal resource agencies.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Ability to list twenty‐five pounds or more to carry and move supplies.
