What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Leader I position at Churchill County?
Applications are invited for the part-time, casual position of Recreation Leader I for Churchill County Parks and Recreation's after-school (CARE) and summer (SumFun) programs. The duties include designing the program, implementing activities which meet the program's goals, assisting in the selection, training and supervision of staff, supervising children in program activities and working with children and parents on a regular basis. If you've had at least 6 months experience leading youth recreational activities, this may be the opportunity you've been looking for to take the next step, assume more responsibilities, and show what you can do. It means not waiting for others to tell you what you need to do, but instead, taking the lead and making decisions. You must be willing to accept the responsibility of supervising other employees.
The person who is selected for this position will be scheduled to work 20-25 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday. Hours and days may be adjusted to meet the needs of the participants. There are no retirement or county health benefits.

Position Summary: Under general supervision, performs routine public contact and leads children and/or adults in recreational activities; and performs other work as assigned.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Recreation Leader I is an entry level class – it is distinguished from the Recreation Leader II by the amount of experience and training. Employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience.

- Assists in the selection and training of other staff in the recreation programs.
- Leads recreational activities for participants; instructs participants and staff to aid their understanding of the activities; addresses concerns of participants and members of the public; deals effectively with the public on a regular basis.
- Performs routine maintenance and custodial functions; maintains facilities and equipment in a neat and orderly condition.
- Maintains an orderly atmosphere among the participants and staff in the program.
- Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
- Minimum age of 18 is preferred.
- American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification in a timely manner.
- Experience working with elementary school age children preferred.
- Experience in recreation activities or a related field is preferred.
- Ability to motivate and stimulate children to participate in recreational activities.
- Current Nevada driver's license required with good driving record.
- Any combination of education and/or experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities.
Work environment includes exposure to outside weather conditions, including high and low temperatures. Frequent contact with members of the public. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field.
