Job Description

LIVE: What You Will Do

STRATEGIC PLANNING

  • Collaborates with executive leadership to define the Company’s long-term mission and goals; identifies ways to support this mission through optimized people management.
  • Drives key Human Resources strategic and tactical initiatives; provides direction and expertise for the full scope of team functions.
  • Leads the process of aligning the Company’s employee evolution with the Company’s culture, strategic focus areas and annual budget.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to the Human Resource team; personally facilitates the resolution of novel, challenging or sensitive matters in all aspects of the work of the Human Resources team.
  • Provides thoughtful, data-driven analyses of all aspects of the Company’s Human Resources functionality.  

TALENT ACQUISITION AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Spearhead workforce planning activities, including the oversight of all talent acquisition and the development of plans to optimize the Company’s functional teams to support growth.  
  • In conjunction with the Director, Recruiting and other Human Resources professionals, partners with managers to fill positions, advises the CFO and CAO weekly on position requisitions, participates in the interview process as appropriate, advises managers on negotiation of compensation.  
  • Partners with Administration Department professionals and managers across the Company to assess, develop and implement management and employee training needs and programs.  
  • Directs HR Ops Business Partners to identify, design, and implement training needs/requirements outside of the scope of the Training and Development function. 

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Oversees, defines the strategy for and facilitates the goal setting, performance management and calibration process, including the annual Professional Development Review (PDR) process. 
  • Ensures managers have clear expectations and addresses performance issues in a timely manner; coaches managers (in group and individual settings) on strategies to promote optimum performance from employees and the appropriate manner to address performance problems.

ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT 

  • Instills a culture of continuous improvement by partnering with executive leadership, employees and external parties to identify ways to reduce waste, increase employee efficiency, enhance job satisfaction and identify business process improvement opportunities.
  • Provides recommendations for the optimization of reporting and organizational structures; refine Company programs and processes to reduce friction and frustration.
  • Champions and executes the human resources-related initiatives that are a part of the Company’s broader environmental, social and governance work, including the leadership of existing and new diversity, equity and inclusion programs consistent with the Company’s goals.
  • Oversees the Director, Recruiting in the development and management of staffing strategy plans and programs to identify talent within and outside the Company for open positions.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS 

  • Develops, refines, implements and enforces the Company’s human resource and related policies and procedures with a focus on enhancement of culture, employee job satisfaction, risk management and productivity; advises executive leadership with respect to the evolution of the human resources regulatory environment and best practices.    
  • Oversees the response to inquiries from employees regarding human resources policies, procedures and programs.
  • Conducts and oversees internal investigations; leads grievance, dispute resolution and interactive accommodation processes, in coordination with the CAO, as the Company representative and point person in legal and similar matters.
  • Counsels managers and presents final recommendations for employee status changes in a manner consistent with applicable law and regulation; prepares separation documentation.

COMPREHENSIVE COMPENSATION PLAN AND BENEFITS 

  • Leads the development of a competitive total compensation plan, including industry and other data analysis, salary ranges, bonus programs, benefits programs, 401(k) and related programs and other rewards; implements these plans and recommends adjustments to heighten employee satisfaction and productivity.
  • Ensures that benefits programs are clearly communicated and understood throughout the organization among all employee groups.
  • Leads interactions with brokers, consultants, plan fiduciaries and others to obtain competitive, cost-effective benefits programs. 
  • Develops framework for and prepares commission and similar agreements for those employees who participate in such arrangements in partnership with Finance.
  • Leads tactical work of the Human Resources team to deliver compensation programs, including the annual salary adjustment and bonus establishment processes, in a manner that maximizes talent retention. 

HUMAN CAPITAL BUDGETING AND REPORTING

  • In collaboration with the CAO, prepares staffing forecasts and analyses to project staffing and organizational development changes in quarterly, annual and multi-year periods.
  • Establish, measure and report on key metrics.

EMPLOYEE AND WORKPLACE SAFETY; RISK MANAGEMENT

  • In collaboration with the CAO, HR, Benefits and D&I, and Director, Risk and Compliance, investigates accidents and prepares reports for worker's compensation insurance carrier; coordinates with insurance carrier to ensure effective case management, lower reserves, case closure and rapid return to work for injured employees.
  • Plans for and responds to, in concert with other members of the Administration Department, natural disasters, pandemics and other uncommon events of consequence to ensure employee safety, business continuity and mitigation of risk.
  • Partners with Director, Risk and Compliance to educate employees about accident prevention, risk management best practices and related reporting requirements.

PEOPLE OPERATIONS TEAM MANAGEMENT 

  • Provides leadership to the People Team with a goal of the continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group, as well as individual professional and personal growth.
  • Provides advice and counsel to the CAO and other senior members of the executive team on varied human resources, legal, compensation, safety, risk management and regulatory compliance matters.  
  • Provides technical advice and knowledge to the People Team; oversees the daily workflow of the team.  
  • Works closely with executive leaders and other senior managers to support and promote their department’s strategic initiatives.   

Qualifications

WIN: What We Expect From You

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • SPHR certification a plus.
  • 15 or more years of experience in a variety of human resources roles.
  • 10 or more years of human resources leadership at a growing company.
  • Exceptional listening, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to effectively communicate at all levels; extensive experience counseling executives, managers and employees in sensitive situations.
  • Intellectual curiosity, progressive thinking, and knowledge of current human resources trends.
  • Considerable knowledge of California labor laws and regulations, Department of Labor regulations; extensive experience conducting internal reviews and investigations.
  • Customer service mindset; good judgment and high emotional intelligence with the ability to make timely and sound business and people decisions; the ability to multitask and prioritize completing tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Proven skills in selecting talent, upholding a healthy internal culture, and developing others.
  • A demonstrated track record of working collaboratively as part of a senior team, with the ability to influence, exchange ideas, and push collectively for the best outcome.
  • A high level of self-awareness and humility.
