PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Band Director shall direct the instructional program for all band students and coordinate campus band activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Music Education
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements - All Level or Secondary Music education
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Special Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of subject(s) to which assigned
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of public school music teaching experience
- Instrumental music experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

- Provide instruction in the band program
- Coordinate the instructional process for band students in concert/marching/jazz, theory, appreciation/history classes
- Maintain accurate band equipment and uniform inventory, budget, maintenance, and general operation of all activities
- Support all district policies regarding the welfare and education of students
- Coordinate the efforts of the band booster organization
- Coordinate campus band activities with campus programs, staff, and community
- Prepare students for quality participation in UIL/TMEA sponsored events
- Participate in the professional development of personal teaching competencies
- Participate in professional organizations which foster and support music education
- Communicate expectations and program goals to students, faculty, parents, community, and booster club members
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
- Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics
- Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision and evaluation of District personnel is not a requirement of this position; however, the supervision of students is required. Direct the work of instructional aide(s).

- Office equipment – persona computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
- Communication equipment – radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
