Wastewater Plant Operator Technician Trainee
JOB SUMMARY/DESCRIPTION:
The Operator Trainee position is an entry level position. The operator trainee is required to learn and demonstrate the ability to operate the day to day activities of the wastewater collection systems. The trainee shall successfully complete the necessary classroom instruction and exams to acquire the TCEQ Class “D” wastewater operator certification and/or a Class “I” collection system operator’s licenses. The collection systems class “II” level operator certification shall be received by the Trainee within three years after receiving the “D” or “I” level certification to remain employed by the Authority. The trainee shall work a typical 40 hour week and successfully complete a probationary period to become a full status employee.
DUTIES: (May include, but not limited to the following):
1. Checking, operating and maintaining machinery, pumps, motors, vehicles, chemical feed equipment, stand-by generators, aeration devices, metering devices, plant and collection systems buildings/structures, etc: ensuring all equipment is operating properly and for its intended purpose. Majority of time spent outdoors.
2. Shall perform all assigned duties in accordance with safety procedures and policies while continually observing the collection and transport process, ensuring all equipment is functioning properly.
3. Performs tasks that require physical exertion, including lifting of object(s) in excess of 40 lbs. and at times in inclement weather.
4. Performs routine checks and tests involving electrical equipment, controls, collection main performance which include, but are not limited to the following: Pumps, motors and control panels. Routinely checks and logs system data information such as flow meters, time clocks, pump run times, etc: Handwriting must be legible.
5. Maintains on a daily basis and to proper standard, the collection systems office areas, break room, records room and bathrooms.
6. Presents a courteous and polite attitude involving co-workers and the general public.
7. Other duties assigned by supervisory personnel.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
2. Be able to read and write English legibly.
3. Have a valid Texas Drivers License and safely handle a trailer in tow.
4. Pass a pre-employment physical with drug screen.
5. Work a typical 8-hour daily schedule and perform stand-by duty which consists of responding to systems alerts and emergencies during a 7 day period of time between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. on workdays and 24 hour duty on scheduled weekends and holidays. As a stand-by operator, this individual will carry a portable radio and cellular phone during all stand-by times for notification of alarm conditions by the system remote monitoring equipment.
6. Must complete a probationary period to achieve “full status” employment.
7. Must achieve a Class “D” Wastewater Operator Certification or a Class “I” Collection System Operator Certification within one year of employment and a Class “C” Wastewater Operator Certification or Class “II” Collection Systems Operator Certification within three years of receipt of the Class “D”/”I” certification.
8. Must be willing to travel to obtain certification training necessary for TCEQ Operator Certification.
9. Work overtime when necessary, with the possibility of emergency call response.
10. Must be able to pass written and/or hands-on tests as administered by Facility Maintenance Superintendent or Utility Director.
