SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The audiology technician assists the Audiology Department in effectively meeting the audiological needs of children and provides administrative support to ensure efficient clinic operations. The audiology technician works collaboratively with CID’s audiologists, finance, and school office staff. The audiology technician is a key player in CID’s on-site earmold manufacturing process and administrative operations of the audiology department. The technician performs several administrative duties encompassing billing, medical records, inventory management and scheduling.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in manufacturing earmolds in CID’s in-house 3D Print Lab, including scanning earmold impressions, utilizing specialized software for earmold design, and completing post-print processes
  • Operates and maintains 3D printing equipment, including basic troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, coordinating repairs as needed, and maintaining lab cleanliness and organization
  • Cleans, troubleshoots, and maintains other audiology equipment
  • Orders and tracks new device purchases and device repairs
  • Coordinates scheduling of patient equipment drop off/pick-up
  • Manages inventory of devices, accessories and clinic supplies
  • Processes medical records requests to/from CID
  • Assists in maintaining timely, accurate electronic medical and billing records
  • Verifies patient insurance coverage and eligibility before services are rendered; obtains prior authorizations and letters of medical necessity, as needed
  • Potential for assisting audiologists with testing, as needed and appropriate, minor repairs, and basic troubleshooting of hearing devices
  • Collaborates with the school office staff in scheduling appointments and checking in patients
  • Collaborates with the finance office to respond to patient inquiries about billing, insurance coverage and payment options and to maximize collection of balances due
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality policies
  • Performs various other duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree or certification in audiology technology, medical billing or medical office management preferred
  • Previous healthcare customer service experience
  • Insurance billing experience preferred
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload for office efficiency
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, electronic health record systems, and basic computer applications
  • Experience with HearForm practice management software or FileMaker Pro is a plus
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency

  • Uses computers, equipment and other technology effectively, including but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, 3D Print lab software and equipment, HearForm or other clinical practice management software, remote communication platforms, network printers, copiers, faxes, phone system
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, patients/families and third-party payors
  • Prepares/obtains appropriate and timely documentation needed to provide and bill services
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient/family information
  • Utilizes fine motor skills to work with hearing devices, batteries, earmolds and other small device components

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Hybrid professional clinical environment and school environment
  • Extended periods of computer and phone use
  • Includes interaction with equipment and materials involved in 3D printing and earmold manufacturing
  • Coordination and physical dexterity sufficient to perform functions of the 3D Print Lab
  • May need to occasionally move equipment up to 25 lbs
