POSITION SUMMARY: The Youth Program Coordinator works with the Programs & Events Manager to lead youth program initiatives system-wide. This position assists the Manager in setting system-wide standards for core programs aligned with youth learning needs. This position is responsible for planning and executing flagship youth programs and collaborates frequently with staff.
DUTIES:
- Aligns Youth Services staff across the system to the Library’s system priorities and develops staff skills related to core programming competencies.
- Works with the Manager to identify core programming competencies for youth services based on industry best practices.
- Identifies Youth Services staff development needs and assists in building resources for staff development, including onboarding and ongoing training on core youth programs.
- Manages projects related to planning and executing flagship system-wide programs, such as summer learning.
- Collaborates frequently with fellow staff to coordinate purchasing, processes, and content related to system-wide programs.
- Develops and evaluates programs for core program priorities to test new programming formats.
- Plans and leads staff meetings and gives presentations to facilitate information sharing and input gathering on agency initiatives.
- Collaborates with manager to maintain multiple programming budgets.
- Makes recommendations for equipment to support core youth programs and assembles supplementary materials for central kits and equipment.
- Organizes and serves on planning teams for system-wide children’s and teen programs and services.
- Provides narrative and statistical reports highlighting outcomes from and impact of department projects.
- Acts as second-in-command of the Lifelong Learning team and directs team work in absence of the Manager.
- Maintains awareness of current Library trends through professional reading, conference attendance, and professional organization participation.
- Respects and maintains confidentiality of customers and staff.
- Seeks out new methods and principles as appropriate and incorporates them into existing practices.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Has a strong working knowledge of youth learning needs, including early literacy/school readiness, social and emotional learning, and college, career and life skills.
- Strong knowledge of youth literature, interests, and behaviors.
- Demonstrates creativity through a variety of programs and storytelling techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to create training and supervise staff.
- Understands and supports the Library’s mission, vision, culture, and structure, and demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the Library’s policies and procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-3 years of progressively responsible and relevant experience.
- 3-5 years of experience working with youth in a library setting is preferred.
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school or in Early Childhood, Education, or other Youth Service field preferred.
HOURS
40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.
SALARY:
Grade 8: $52,832.00-$64,708.80
