What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adjunct Instructor – Community English as a Second Language (ESL) position at Cincinnati State Technical & Community College?
- Plan and prepare course materials and lessons based upon department guidelines, learner feedback, and community needs
- Teach ESL to adult learners
- Regularly assess students’ English-language learning needs and goals through in-class engagement and dialogue with learners.
- Provide interesting and relevant assignments for students that demonstrate learning outcomes in a real-life setting
- Maintain student attendance and performance records as applicable
- Assist with organization, planning, and logistics at community partner sites
- Inform participants about additional learning opportunities at Cincinnati State
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Teaching or training experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Master’s degree in Literacy, Second Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, or related field
- Experience teaching ESL to adult learners
- Experience working with students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and academic backgrounds
- Communicative fluency in a non-English language (Spanish and/or French preferred)
- TESOL Certification (within the last 10 years)
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and to distribute relevant course material in a timely manner
- Motivation to participate in Diversity, Equity, and Access initiatives
- Ability to work in a diverse work environment
- Versatile organizational and planning skills
