Plant Lab Assistant
The Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife (CREW) Plant Research Division at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is seeking a lab assistant to prepare tools and materials to facilitate various projects involving the conservation of rare and endangered plants.
Position Summary: This position would support the Plant Research Division in achieving their goals in the conservation of rare and endangered plants by helping to maintain a clean and functioning lab and greenhouse.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Maintenance of lab cleanliness
- Cleaning of test tubes for plant tissue culture
- Autoclave sterilization of tools
- Assistance with greenhouse and acclimatization tasks
- Other related duties as assigned to ensure the overall function and well-being of the Plant Research Division
Qualifications & Desired Skills: Candidates with a strong interest in plant conservation preferred. Lab and/or horticultural experience is a plus. Some college experience in biology and/or horticulture is preferred. Attention to detail, independence, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously are required. The applicant must present a professional appearance, be timely and reliable in attendance and performance, and be able to work well with staff and volunteers. Candidate will be responsible for their own transportation to and from Zoo grounds.
Position Details: This position is located on the grounds of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. The position is budgeted for 6 hours per week; shifts can be flexible based on candidate’s availability. Hours can be completed anytime between 7am-4pm Monday-Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
Compensation: This position pays $15/hour.
