Position: Human Resource Generalist
Reports to: Managing Director, Human Capital & Operations
Scope: This exempt full-time position, is based in Washington, D.C. The HR Generalist will play a key role in managing and implementing human resources functions to support the organization's mission. This includes recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, training, and compliance with HR policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience in HR within the non-profit sector and a passion for international development.
The Human Resources Generalist will be responsible for a wide range of functions, including but not limited to:
General Responsibilities
- Employee Relations:
- Serve as an initial point of contact for employee inquiries and concerns, including all payroll and benefits related items.
- Initially address grievances and attempt to mediate conflicts in a professional and confidential manner.
- Performance Management:
- Coordinate performance evaluation processes and provide guidance to managers and staff.
- Support the development of individual and team goals aligned with organizational objectives.
- Training & Development:
- Identify training needs and organize professional development programs.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and growth.
- HR Policies & Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to organizational policies and local labor laws.
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation.
- Recruitment & Onboarding:
- Assist with the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and reference checks, and facilitate onboarding and orientation for new hires.
- Other Duties:
- Support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience:
- A minimum of 3-5 years of HR experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
- Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
- Knowledge of labor laws and HR best practices.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Experience in international development or working with global teams.
- Familiarity with HR software and tools.
- Strong conceptual, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to take initiative, organize tasks, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment, ensuring deadlines are met with attention to detail.
- Skilled in building strong, trusting relationships to gain support and achieve desired outcomes.
- Capable of managing multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
- Comfortable working in an environment with international objectives.
- Flexible and able to engage with individuals at all levels with strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required.

THE SALARY RANGE FOR THIS POSITION IS $65,000-$80,000
