Role Overview:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating a variety of heavy machinery to facilitate site preparation and construction activities. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety standards, and effective collaboration with team members to ensure project goals are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Operation:
- Operate heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, backhoes, and graders, following all safety protocols and company standards.
- Conduct daily inspections of equipment to ensure proper working condition and report any maintenance needs or safety concerns.
Site Preparation:
- Assist in preparing job sites by moving and grading soil, clearing debris, and excavating trenches as required for the project.
- Ensure that operations are carried out efficiently and with minimal disruption to the surrounding environment.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with Foremen and crew members to execute project plans effectively.
- Maintain clear communication with team members and supervisors regarding project status and equipment performance.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Keep accurate daily logs of equipment usage, tasks performed, and any incidents or issues that arise on-site.
- Adhere to project specifications to ensure work is completed correctly and effectively.
Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety regulations and procedures on the job site, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Participate in safety training and meetings to promote a culture of safety within the team.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in the construction or sitework industry is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of equipment operation, maintenance, and safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret project plans and blueprints is an asset.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
