The Regional Development Manager is responsible for acquiring new wholesale fuel dealer accounts, commercial fuel accounts, affiliated franchisee fuel accounts, and wholesale fuel marketer acquisitions. The position requires in-depth analysis of new business contracts and acquisitions, as well as creating and delivering presentations of new business proposals to senior management. Additionally, the Regional Development Manager will provide comprehensive site and operator reviews, along with recommendations for new wholesale fuels and franchise business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive Regional Wholesale Fuels Expansion: Analyze specified markets, identify prospects, review demographic data and volume predictions for accuracy, perform site selection analysis, and qualify potential franchisees and dealers. Track prospect pipeline using Salesforce or other required CRM tool.
- Collaborate with Departments: Work closely with Wholesale Fuels Operations team, Franchise group, and Regional Business Unit departments, including Real Estate, Franchise, Marketing, and Finance, regarding site divestitures, marketing plans, and site approvals.
- Achieve Financial Objectives: Forecast requirements, prepare budgets, manage expenditures, stay within budget, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions.
- Expand Wholesale Fuels Presence: Contribute to the preparation of wholesale area strategies and annual business plans to expand wholesale fuels presence on a territorial basis. Monitor the dealer business system and recommend changes to ensure competitive market strategies.
- Enhance Customer Satisfaction: Build rapport with potential dealers and franchisees, resolve issues, and follow up on needs to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Participate in Qualification Process: Conduct group and individual presentations, collect application files, complete FDD disclosures, coordinate interviews, answer administrative questions, coordinate training, serve as a liaison for franchisee dealer candidates, and prepare and submit capital proposals to senior management.
- Conduct Negotiations: Prepare business deal summaries, draft letters of intent, obtain approvals, ensure mutual understanding among parties, and monitor status and quality.
- Coordinate Brand Imaging: Obtain approvals and coordinate image work for new accounts.
- Understand Fuel Supply Agreements: Obtain working knowledge of the PMPA, dealer, and commercial fuel agreements, and work with the support team on the completion of new contracts.
- Maintain Professional Knowledge: Attend educational workshops, read professional publications, establish personal networks, and participate in professional societies to maintain and enhance professional and technical knowledge.
- Attend Trade Shows: Exhibit supply offers at market trade shows.
- Contribute to Team Financial Targets: Achieve financial and key result area targets in line with company guidelines.
Requirements
- Significant travel is expected, potentially accounting for over 50% of the position's working time.
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing or a related field is preferred. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be considered.
- A minimum of five years of retail or service industry sales experience is required; franchise, wholesale fuels, and sales experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is essential.
- Experience using a CRM tool or other organizational tool to track leads.
- A positive, can-do attitude and creative thinking skills are necessary.
- Goal-oriented, with a focus on achieving both individual and group objectives within the Development department.
- Ability to multi-task and work independently.
- Ability to travel extensively for new business and trade shows.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
