Practical Nursing Coordinator – Adult Education

The Practical Nursing Coordinator will be responsible for the overall day-to-day management and student instruction for the Practical Nursing Program. This position is comprised of 20 hours/week instructional duties and 20 hours/week administrative duties. The Practical Nursing Coordinator reports directly to the CTE Coordinator for Adult Education. Provides expertise needed for the clinical and theoretical components.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

• • Implements program curriculum, philosophy, goals and objectives.
  • Creates, assigns, and grades day to day class, lab or clinical study materials.
  • Maintains an ongoing search of professional literature for materials to update knowledge of health care delivery and education.
  • Prepares class materials for assigned day, including web sources, AV materials and guest speakers as needed.
  • Assists/participates in the orientation of all incoming students and graduation of all outgoing students.
  • Functions as a lead instructor for all assigned class and lab activities.
  • Provides tutoring to students as necessary. Counsel students in areas of academic weakness.
  • Attends department faculty, advisory or other meetings as may be assigned by the CTE Coordinator for Adult Education.
  • Prepares student patient assignments within the scope of PN practice, facility policy and proficiency of the student, prior to the start of clinical. Conducts pre/post conferences so that students can actively participate.
  • Directly supervises, assists, assesses and/or verbally guides students with procedure/skills until the student is able to safely perform with minimum supervision: also ensure that patient care is performed and documented accurately in a timely manner. Guides student to develop progressive, appropriate independence.
  • Assists in the preparation of documentation for the state PN review and other required reports.
  • Assist with the hiring, onboarding and review of Practical Nursing faculty.
  • Assist Practical Nursing faculty with professional development.
  • Visit health care facilities in an effort to build and maintain relationships.
  • Attend recruiting events and activities to build potential student interest in the program.
  
  

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing Required. Successful candidate will be required to obtain a Master of Science in Nursing.
• Valid NYS professional nursing license.
• 5 years’ experience acute care or long-term care preferred.
• Previous teaching and/or supervisory experience preferred.
