SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
The Prevention Specialist promotes awareness, resources and education related to youth mental health and addiction at schools throughout Franklin County. Prevention Specialists also work closely with school staff to develop trusted relationships with students, increase awareness around risky behaviors, and support referrals for struggling students. This position utilizes a mix of evidenced-based programs and activities that foster positive youth development.
Essential Functions (Job Duties)
• Affect a lasting resistance to the abuse of drugs at the individual, school, family and community levels.
• Facilitation of school-based prevention curriculums.
• Community education and awareness.
• Development of support groups, assessments and referrals.
• Create and facilitate parent prevention coalitions.
• Mental wellness and suicide prevention, education and awareness.
• Support student-led prevention chapters.
• Act as liaison between relevant community agencies as relates to substance abuse prevention.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a school-based, full-time position, which follows the school schedule.
Workweek schedule: Monday through Friday.
Hours of work: 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Hours and schedules may vary depending on Company need and workload. Employees will be given as much advance notice as possible when such changes occur.
Travel
This position is school-based, with routine meetings held at our outpatient clinics throughout the region.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree, CASAC or Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) required.
- Chemical Dependency Counseling Degree preferred.
- Experience with those with struggling with addiction preferred.
