This position provides instruction and support in the woodshop areas for senior adults, adults and or youth participants. May be responsible for supervising a variety of volunteers and participants. This person needs to have the ability to operate all equipment and tools and pass the written and practical exam necessary for operation of equipment and tools in the woodshop space.
Sessions are scheduled year round.
Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM; Wednesday, 6:00–9:00 PM; Saturday and Sunday, 12:00–3:00 PM.
Salary range: $18.22 - $24.65 /hour
Designs courses for classroom environment.
Develops and plans class curriculum
Purchases supplies and provides a supply list of items students will need to purchase for class.
Fosters a creative learning environment.
Supervises opening and closing of the woodshop facility as needed.
Supervises volunteers and participants
Enforces all rules and regulations of the program
Assists in daily/weekly cleaning, maintenance and safety inspections
Handles emergency situations by calling appropriate staff and agencies.
Provides basic assistance regarding equipment and supplies
Available to patrons for instruction on proper and safe use of equipment.
Provides woodshop orientation and practical exam training.
Attends scheduled meetings as required
Responsible for proper use and care of materials, equipment, site and facility use
Maintains a high degree of visibility in the woodshop area, while on duty.
Assist with special group use of woodshop
Education
8th grade education or equivalent. Valid AED, first aid and CPR certifications preferred
Experience
One year of responsible woodshop/woodworking experience. Previous experience in an organized recreation program and experience working with the public in providing program instructions and customer service preferred. Previous experience with woodshop preferred.
Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be 18 years of age.
Exert up to 50 lbs. Of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. Force constantly to life, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Must provide a safe and enjoyable environment for participants.
May be exposed to a variety of potential safety hazards.
Noise level is moderate to loud..
Required to have a full range of physical movement.
Visual abilities including close, distant, depth, peripheral are required.
Physical demands include but are not limited to utilizing equipment and tools, maintenance of equipment, set up and take down.
