The Denver International Airport (DEN) Operations division is actively seeking an Airport Security DENtern to contribute to their division. As part of DEN's Strategic Plan, Vision 100, which envisions reaching 100 million annual passengers, Operations plays a pivotal role in transforming the aviation industry. Airport Security is responsible for enforcing 49 CFR part 1542 the Airport Security Program (ASP). Provides badging services to nearly 40,000 badged employees, including contractors and vendors.

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive pay rate to commensurate with education. The salary range for this position is $19.75 - $22.32, based on education. Denver International Airport emerging talent positions are required to attend all sessions of professional development within the cohort model. You will be onboarded with a cohort of peers to begin to help you develop your network across the aviation industry.

The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model with a required 3 days in office. Employees work where needed to support business, at the Denver International Airport. We do not offer housing or relocation assistance for this position.
Internship Duration and Hours:
This is a one-year internship working up to 30 hours per week.
FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

As an intern you will get to experience working on projects such as:
- Always Challenge Everyone (ACE) Program
- Manage the ACE Program which tests employees on challenging unbadged individual in the secure area
- Leading, educating and training Airport ID badge holders on security programs/initiatives
- Violations Program
- Assist in processing violation notices, review camera footage and attend hearings
- Audits
- Conduct inspections for prohibited items
- Assist with perimeter audits
- Experience and learn about the various departments within Airport Operations
- Assist with testing/evaluating of the contract guards.
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following skills, characteristics, and interest:
- A current student seeking a bachelor's in Airport Operations, Aviation Management, and/or related field.
- An interest in Airport Security operations and regulations
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Technical computer skills
- Good technical reading abilities
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team environment or alone
- Research and analytics: The ability to assess data, find partners, and add to current study; meticulous care to detail in documentation and data gathering.
- Effective Communications (written and oral): Writing and open communication skills for expressing concepts and results; ability to communicate research findings clearly and captivatingly.
- Interpersonal: Verbal and nonverbal communication, the ability to handle conflict, teamwork, empathy, listening, and a positive attitude

- Education Requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion).
