The Financial Services Division (FSD) of Denver Human Services is looking to hire an accomplished and dedicated financial professional to serve as a Budget Analyst Associate. The individual who fills this role will have strong analytical and interpersonal skills and be comfortable meeting with and making recommendations to division directors and department executives about budgetary matters. In this position, you will be supervised by a Fiscal Administrator II and work closely with senior budget analysts, division directors and deputies throughout the department as well as various program areas.

Although our full pay range is included above, the budgeted hiring range for this position is $80,000- $90,000 based on education and experience.

Primary duties and responsibilities of the Budget Analyst Associate include:
- Assist with preparing monthly financial reports for division directors summarizing budget vs. actuals, filled vs. vacant positions, contractual obligations, etc
- Participate in monthly meetings with division directors to go over the reports on budget vs. actuals, filled vs. vacant positions, contractual obligations, etc
- Assist with pulling data and performing ad hoc analyses including developing program budgets, estimating costs, reviewing actual expenditures historically, etc
- Assist with researching transactions and making corrections when necessary
- Assist with entering budget journals into the financial system of record and substantiating them with backup documentation
- Assist with entering contract requisitions into the financial system of record
- Assist with troubleshooting obligation and procurement issues in conjunction with the Departments of Finance and General Services and DHS Contracting and Accounts Payable
- Assist with reviewing and approving position creation, abolishment, and modification requests
- Assist with the reconciliation of budgeted positions, creation of base budget worksheets summarizing information about prior years’ expenses, assist with the development of expansion or reduction requests, entering requests in the City’s budgeting system, and drafting significant budget changes bullets for the City’s annual budget book
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
- Ability to produce data visualization using Power BI
- Exemplary attention to detail in reviewing work and performing analyses
- Knowledge of Excel, including formulas and pivot tables
- Ability to write clearly and concisely convey pertinent information in a non-technical way
- Experience forecasting and preparing monthly financial reports
- Willingness to engage with multi-disciplinary teams
- Creativity and resourcefulness in finding answers and brainstorming potential ways to project costs
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
- Experience: One (1) year of professional level experience analyzing budgets, financial statements, preparing budget justification requests, and allocating funds according to spending priorities
- Education & Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted
- Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
